“Yes,” I said. “But Electra comes with me.”

“That’s highly irregular.” Simon’s brows practically vaulted to his twenty-foot ceiling.

“It’s nonnegotiable,” I said.

“Then by all means. Come.” Simon stepped past me.

I took Electra’s hand. She quickly gave her phone number to Mary and murmured an apology as I tugged her away.

“Thanks a lot,” she hissed as we hurried to follow Simon.

“You’ll knock them on their asses. They’ll get into a bidding war over you.”

“I haven’t done that sort of thing in a long time.”

“Meaning dancing while keeping your clothes on.” I smirked.

“Yes.” She pinched me again with her fingers of death.

“You’re gonna earn yourself some payback,” I said low, giving her a warning look. “If you keep doing that.”

“Promise?” Her eyes darkened.

“Oh yeah.” I took her hand out of my jacket, lacing our fingers together. “Me and you. We’re a team. I’ll be there to support you when Mary and Charles come to see you dance. You’ll come see me at my games.” I stopped her outside of Simon’s office, even though he’d already gone in.

“You’re not retiring?” she whispered.

“With you in my corner? No way.” I shook my head. “But we gotta go in there.” I gestured. “And negotiate the next couple of years of our life together, yeah?”

Slowly smiling as if it were me giving and not the other way around, she nodded. “Deal.”

“Best deal I ever negotiated.” I grinned. “Negotiating with Simon Morris, who loves his money more than anything, is gonna be a shit ton harder.”

“We got this,” she said firmly.

And I agreed. With Electra beside me, I could do anything.

INSIDE THE NAVIGATOR, my phone buzzed with a text alert as Champion drove us away from Simon’s estate. I removed it from my bag and glanced at the display.

“Who is it?” Champion asked from the driver’s seat beside me.

“Mary,” I said, and my brows rose as another text came in. “And Charles.”

“They’re eager to see what you can do.”

“It appears so.” Bemused, I shook my head.

“They know a good thing when they see it.”

“Um, not even, despite the appreciated endorsement by the highest-paid quarterback in Texas Lonestars history.” I shook my head. No one was going to offer me a $110 million signing bonus like Simon had given Champion without batting an eye. “But I appreciate the vote of confidence.”

My phone rang. “It’s Ally,” I told him and took the call. “Hey. Has Zack picked you up yet?”

“Yeah,” Ally said. “We’re en route. But it will be a while before we arrive,” she grumbled. “He has a Lamborghini Urus, but he drives like a grandma.”

“I do not,” I heard Zack say. “I have precious cargo. I’m driving safely.”
