"Uh yeah. Thanks," I replied, hopping off the table. He handed me my clothes, and we both got dressed. He chuckled and sighed.

"Ya didn't even try my soup."

"Maybe another time," I laughed awkwardly. I followed him through the living room and to the front door. "Bye, Theo," I said, giving him a good scratch. We walked out to his cruiser. He opened the door for me, and I got in. He jumped in, started the car, and pulled out, turning his siren on. The rest of the ride was silent and awkward. I would glance over at him, and he looked deep in thought. Oh, God. What did I do….

Chapter 31

*Beep, beep, beep*

Ten AM, I groaned while rolling over to hit silent on my phone. I lay on my back and stared at the ceiling. I closed my eyes and played back to what had happened last night. We kissed, and the ride back to the motel was awkward and quiet.

I brought my hands up to my face and rubbed my eyes.

"Fuck," I groaned, leaning up. I whipped the blanks off and went to the bathroom to do my business and get dressed. I checked my calendar; I have to leave the motel today. Should I pay for another night? Do I have enough money for another night? I still have to pay for my car, ugh. As I leaned against the bed, I thought to myself. I tossed my phone onto the side table and grabbed bags to pack.

I was walking out of the bathroom with my toiletries when I heard a knock on the room door. Nathan? I thought to myself. I set my stuff down and tip-toed my way to the door. I peeped through the peephole to see a recognizable face. I unlocked the door and swung it open.

"Doll?" I said, shocked.

"Hey, darling! I brought lunch!" She smiled, holding up a big paper bag. I smiled, shaking my head, stepping aside.

"How'd you know I was here?" I asked as she walked by me. She set the food bag on the table.

"I called the motels in the area. " She smiled. Of course she did. I thought, giggling. I closed the door, locked it, and walked over to the table. Doll was setting what looked like Chinese food out.

"Are you stalking me now?" I joked. We both laughed as we sat down.

"I wanted to apologize," she said, cutting her laughter short.

"Oh?" I said, confused.

"Isaiah's and Issac's behavior has been unacceptable. I'm so sorry," she said, putting her hand on mine. Tears gathered in her eyes.

"Doll, it's okay. You don't need to " She looked up at me.

"But I do; those are not the boys I raised. I raised them better than that, Del."

"Again, it's not your fault," I reassured her. The tears fell from her eyes. I got up, also pulling her up and into a hug. We hugged for a minute or two. She pulled away and rubbed my shoulders. "Let's eat."

We talked and joked around while we ate. When we were done eating, I had to check out my room.

"Shit," I sighed, looking at the time.

"What's up?" Doll asked.

"I gotta check out soon."

"Your car isn't done yet. So why are you leaving?" she said while cleaning up the garbage. I hesitated to say anything, and she noticed. "Del?"

"I don't have… the money for another night," I mumbled, but she still heard me.

"So where are you staying, then?"

"I haven't quite figured that out yet, but I will get there."

"Nope, you're coming with me. We have that extra space at the clubhouse."

"Del, I couldn't. That's the guy's space, and Isaiah will be pissed," I sputtered. "And Issac lives there."
