"Well, at least he cared," I said, smiling slightly. He nodded his head and cleared his throat.

"You good? I know what happened back at the garage was fucked," he asked me. I shook my head.

"I don't know. I feel like he's leading me on. I feel like he wants me around just to keep him busy," I explained. Jay sighed and tilted his head.

"I have no idea what he's doing either, but I know he wants you safe. He's much happier when you're around, which is crazy to believe, but it's true," Jay said. "I've known him since we were kids. He's got a thing for you. I mean, who wouldn't? You're beautiful, outgoing, and kinda crazy, but that's okay. We're all a little of that."

"I feel the crazy part," I laughed, shaking my head. "I don't feel the beautiful or outgoing part," Jay gave me a confused look.

"Why?" Jay questioned me. I laughed and shook my head.

"My long-time boyfriend cheated on me with my best friend. That's one reason I moved out here. Then ya know… I thought Issac, and I had something, but I don't know about that, no, '' I explained with tears in my eyes," Everything is just so fucking confusing lately that I don't know who I am anymore or what I'm doing," Jay sighed and walked over to me.

"I'm sorry," he said, rubbing my shoulder. I nodded my head, wiping away the tears on my cheek. "Let's go pick up dinner for us. Okay? Put this hood back on and tie it tight so no one sees your silly face," he said, pulling up my hood and tying the ties. I laughed, and he smiled at me. "Let's go," he said, grabbing my hand and walking towards the garage door.

We parked outside the diner Jay picked out. "I'll go order, and you stay here. I'm gonna lock the doors when I get out; here's a burner phone that only has my number. So if anything happens, call or text me," he said, handing me a little flip phone.

"Okay," I said with a little smile, and nodded. He got out of the car and locked the doors. I watched him walk inside. He looked around before he went in. I sighed and leaned my head back against the headrest. I closed my eyes and tried to relax. Then it hit me. I have to pee. Great. I tried to hold it, but it became very uncomfortable. I flipped open the phone Jay gave me and texted him.

Me- I have to pee :(

Jay- Can u hold it?

Me- I'm trying. What should I do?

Jay- There's a flower shop across the street. Run over there. I have a pocket knife in the dash. Take that with u, please.

Jay- Be quick

Me- Okay

The car unlocked. I opened the dash, grabbed the knife, and slid it into my hoodie pockets. I looked in the restaurant window at Jay. I nodded and quickly got out and trotted across the road. I opened the door to the shop, stepped inside, and saw a girl behind the counter.

"Hi there, where's your bathroom?" I said with an uncomfortable smile. She smiled at me and pointed and gave me directions.

"You go down the hallway there, and it's to the left of the back door that says exit on it," she explained. I nodded my head.

"Thank you so much. " I smiled and quickly went to the bathroom. I opened the door and locked it. I sat down and sighed in relief. I got up, washed my hands, and didn't bother looking in the mirror. So I unlocked the door and stepped out. I went to text Jay. I was on my way back when I felt a hand yank on my arm, pulling me out of the exit door. They covered my mouth when I went to scream. They pulled me out into an alley. Three guys with masks stood before me, and another held me tight. They yanked my hood down to look at my face.

"It's her," one of them said. The guy holding me adjusted his position and slammed me against the wall by my throat, making me stand on my tippy toes. I grabbed his arm that held my throat.

"We've been looking for you," the man holding my throat said through his mask. I started to kick and thrash around, trying to get him to loosen his grip. He tightened his grip, making me gasp for air. "She's a feisty one, boys!" He yelled, laughing. I tried to say words, but his grip was too tight. "Hey, Vin! Call Mason and tell him we caught her," the guy holding me yelled. I felt light-headed. I'm gonna pass out, I thought. Then I remembered I had Jay's knife in my pouch. I quickly let go of the guy's arm, grabbed the blade, and jammed it into his neck. I yanked it out and looked at him as he let me go and grabbed his neck. The noises he made from choking on his blood put me in shock.

"What are you idiots doing?! Grab her," the dude on the phone yelled. I didn't think twice before I started running. I have no idea where I'm going. I turned into another alleyway that pointed towards the street. I was still holding the bloody knife in my hand. If I run into the street, people will see the blood on me and the knife. I stopped and looked for a different way to run, but the only way was back. I brought my hands up to my head, trying to think.

"She couldn't have gotten far. Keep looking!" I heard a voice echo in the alley from behind me. I panicked. There was a gap in the wall that I noticed while looking around. I quickly ran and slid into it, bringing my knees to my chest. I tightened my grip on the knife. My body trembled, along with my breath. I heard footsteps right in front of me, and they stopped.

Chapter 18

The footsteps came to a stop in front of me. I put one hand over my mouth and left the other still gripped onto the knife.

"Do you see anything?!" someone yelled in the alley.

"Nothing yet!" a voice rang next to me. Tears streamed down my face. I needed to come up with a plan. The footsteps retreated. I sighed in relief. I peeked out of the nook I was hiding in and looked into the alley. I didn't see anything… I took a deep breath and darted out of the nook. I don't care where I run to. I NEED to get out of this maze of an alley. I spun a corner and ran into someone.

"Shit!" I shouted, falling backward. The knife fell from my grip. I couldn't see who was standing in front of me.

"Found ya," I heard a deep, scary voice mumble. I panicked and got up, but he grabbed a handful of my hair.
