I was too nervous to text you back right away. There, I said it.

How is your day?

I tossed my phone down on my desk and picked up my container of Greek yogurt and berries. My phone vibrated right away, but I told myself to eat a spoonful of yogurt before I checked it.

Zach

Better now that I’m hearing from you. Uneventful. How is your day going, lucky?

Me

Lucky?

Zach

Told you you’re my good luck charm.

Too on the nose? I could call you rabbit’s foot or something more obscure if you prefer.

Me

Lucky is perfect. My day has been filled with dodging calls from one pissed-off parent who makes too much money to qualify for Power Play.

Zach

Ouch. Want me to come down there and make sure she doesn’t storm in?

Me

She did threaten to bring her child here so we could tell them to their face just to make them cry.

Zach

That is cruel.

Would it be alright if I called you?

I nearly choked on my spoonful of yogurt. He wanted to call me. Why? Was it to deliver bad news?

Me

Sure.

I sounded far more relaxed in my message than I felt. My heart was racing, and I wasn’t sure what I was even going to say to him.

My phone rang, but it wasn’t a call. It was a video call.

“What the hell?” I hissed and lifted my phone higher, staring at my own face.

I yanked the hair tie out of the messy bun I had created an hour ago. Accepting the call, I hated the way my stomach clenched and my stupid heart fluttered at the sight of Zach, shirtless and sprawled in his bed.

“Wow,” Zach breathed.

I stared down at the little box with my face in it, wondering if I had somehow smeared yogurt across my cheeks without knowing.

“What?”

He chuckled. “I think you get more and more beautiful each time I see you.”
