"Sure."

"It's your sense of wonder at the world. You might not show it much, but it came pouring out when you spoke about your mother. And now, you want to save this book and protect it for future generations all because your mom read to you as a child. There is something deeply poignant about that. Look me in the eye and tell me that you don't want that for your child. Imagine the feeling you will get if you can be the one instilling a love in your child. Don't you want that?"

"Of course, I want that."How can I not want that?

"Then you have to let go of things sometimes. You want to protect this book, but so do I. The same will be true of our child. Think of what will be lost if you try to control every aspect of everything."

I take a sip of my coffee. I feel as if my brain has been put in a blender and spun around at a million miles an hour.

"Just try to live, Logan." Teal then picks up a large spoonful of whipped cream.

I look her in the eye, and for a moment, anything feels possible.

"I will try," I say.

A MEDIA LEAK

"Hey," I say as Logan gets out of his car.

I have been waiting for him before we go up the stairs to the office to meet Charlie and her advisors. We cannot have this conversation outside the room or in the elevator on the way up.

"How are you feeling?" asks Logan.

"Please don't do that. You know why I'm waiting down here for you and not up there. Can you please tell me it's not true?"

"I do not want to talk about it."

Logan starts to walk away, but I can't let him go. I grab his arm to stop him in his tracks, and he turns and looks at me as if I have just cursed him out.

I hold his gaze and wait for him to talk first.

"I really do not want to talk about this," he repeats.

"I don't care," I state. "Why do you think they called this meeting with us? If we are going there to be told that this is all over, I want to know whether we can fight it. I don't believe everything I hear in the media, Logan, but this is a lot to take in. To be honest, I don't care about the book, but I do care about my baby."

Logan comes straight to me and takes me by the shoulders. He looks into my eyes, and I search him for the truth.

"Nothing is going to happen to our baby, Teal. I promise you that."

"And I believe you, Logan, but we can't skirt around this issue. We need to talk about this."

"I cannot believe they published the story," admits Logan.

"And I can't believe I had to hear about it in the local newspaper. This is just the start. With the IP rights on the line and the attention the rights are gaining, it's only a matter of time before the nationals get a hold of this."

"I know, and I am doing all I can to have the story withdrawn."

"Did you do it?" I ask.

"Did I do what?"

"Did you force her to have an abortion?"

"It is more complicated than what they printed."

"Is it?" I ask. "You got a woman pregnant and forced her to have an abortion. What is complicated about that?"

"Is that what they said?" Logan shakes his head. "Do they have evidence that Iforcedher to have an abortion? Did you read the article?"
