"Are you denying it?" I furrow my brows. "You went to the abortion clinic with her, and she got an abortion. They have your signature on the documentation along with hers. So, you are the father, and you made the decision. Where is the complicated part?"

"As I already said, I do not want to get into it. I am not doing this for me. I am doing it for her. This is all to protect her."

"Protect her? You forced her to have an abortion! How is that protecting her?"

Logan looks at me, and I can tell he is weighing up the decision. Now that he is looking at me that way, I don't want to force him into saying anything, but I have to know. He looks to the ground before he looks back at me, and I am sure there is a slight glisten in his eyes.

"I will not give you her name, not her real name. The press does not know who she really is. All they have is the fake name we gave. We both gave fake names. My signature is not on the forms, but I did sign them and they either had someone from the abortion clinic tip them off about me or they have CCTV footage. That's all I can think of, but I have someone working on that too."

"So, you gave a fake name and made her go through with the abortion?" I ask.

"Listen, I know how it looks, and I have been carrying this around for many years, but I did not force her to have an abortion. She had to have that abortion."

"Yeah, that's what you would say."

"I am not saying anything. I am telling you the truth, Teal. She was a friend from childhood, and we drifted apart. She got into a relationship with an abusive guy, and he got her pregnant."

"What? I don't understand. The baby wasn't yours?"

"No, but I had to pretend that it was."

"Why?" I am starting to doubt that I paid attention to the article at all.

"To save her life. I hope it was to save her life, or was all of this for nothing?"

For the first time since meeting Logan, I think he is going to break down in tears. I want to go to him, but I'm still not sure what all of this means. I wait for him to finish.

"He would beat her," he continues. "I wish I were around to help her through it, but we both moved away from home when we were teens. He manipulated her the whole time they were together, and when he got her pregnant, she knew she was trapped. She would never be able to get away from him if they had a child together, but she couldn't abort it. She cherished life so much."

"So, how did it end up…?"

Logan sighs. "He came home drunk one night, and he was annoyed that she had not reheated his supper for him. Can you believe that? All of this carnage over a meal? I do not know how she got my number, but she did not know anyone else. I flew to her as soon as she explained everything to me. She had been to the doctor the next day, and there were complications. She had to abort the child or she might die."

"What?" I gasp.

"He said no. That fucking bastard said no. He did not believe that the doctors were being straight with him and thought it was all a conspiracy for her to get away from him. He wanted the child, and he would not give it up."

"So you helped her," I said, finally understanding.

"I did. She lived in Louisiana, and you need to have written consent from the father. I am not proud of what I did, but it had to be done. It was easy to get some forged documents, and we went in there together and came out with one less life in the world."

"But you saved her life!"

"I hope I did," he mumbles. "We will never know for sure."

"What happened to her?"

"I gave her some money and another fake I.D. and told her to get as far away from the place as possible. She was never to call me again and never look back in case someone found out what we did. I was wealthy back then, but not as wealthy as I am right now. Still, the timing of it is weird."

"Do you think someone purposely leaked it because of the book rights?"

"I do. I do not know who, but I have a team working on it. I am going to find out who is after me, and I am going to put an end to it."

"Are you in danger? Arewein danger? What if the father found out?"

"I do not think he did, and I do not believe we are in danger. He was a lowlife, and he does not have the power to do something like this. It was one of our rivals, and seeing as you only just quit your job, I have to consider Good Relations for this. Whoever did this… did it for money. There is greed all over this, but not danger."

"You have to tell Charlie about this."
