Oh no. What did I do?

“Mr. Whiss?” Harlee furrowed her brows. “Is something wrong?”

Obviously.

I braced against the arms of the chair I was sitting in. “Eli—”

“What the hell are you doing having a meeting without me knowing? That is against policy in this office.” He was seething as his eyes bored into mine.

“I...I didn’t think—”

“No,” he cut me off. “You didn’t think, Olivia. Do you think that because you’re Owen’s little sister you can just come in here and do whatever the hell you want? Because that’s not how this works. You don’t get to come in here and act like you run the place. I run the place.”

My mouth dropped open, heat rushing to my cheeks as I glanced over to Harlee, who looked less surprised and more irritated. “Um, I’m sorry. Could we talk about this in your office?” I was so embarrassed, and I could only imagine what this might do to my potential new job.

“No, we’re going to talk about this right here, right now.”

“Eli...” My voice trailed off, feeling like my entire plan for the future was going right down the drain. “I really would like to talk about this without our client present.

“My client,” he snapped. “This is my company.”

Harlee’s eyebrow shot up. “Mr. Whiss,” she cut in, her voice growing sharp. “I was here to speak with Olivia about a personal matter—not business. This was a friend-to-friend meeting. From now on, I will ensure that I speak with her outside of work hours. My manager is always present for business meetings.”

I held my breath as Eli’s face suddenly dropped.

Harlee cleared her throat, pushing back from the table. “Anyway, Olivia,” she addressed me, handing me the stack of brainstorming from Jenna, “I’m going to go ahead and go. You two look like you might have some things you need to discuss. I will let Jenna know that I passed all this stuff to you, and I’ll see you around.”

I nodded as she passed by, gently squeezing my shoulder. “Thank you.”

“Good luck,” she said to me before turning to Eli and nodding. “Mr. Whiss.”

“Harlee,” he choked out, sounding more defeated than ever. I might’ve felt sorry for him in another situation, but after how he had just exploded on me...

Yeah, no.

No sympathy at all.

My heart thundered in my chest as I turned back to him, the door clicking shut. “Well?”

“My office, now.”

I took a deep breath, wondering if this was going to be the day I was finally fired. I followed him out of the conference room, pausing to hand off the papers to Zena for safekeeping. She gave me a sympathetic look and I responded with a shrug and an eyeroll as I headed out of the main office to Eli’s private wing.

“Good morning,” Brittany said brightly to him.

He didn’t respond to her.

She gave me a glare as the door to his office swung open and I followed him in. My legs felt weak and my mouth dry as I shut the door behind us. I was now alone with him for the first time since we’d hooked up again...

But I highly doubted we’d be fucking this time.

“What the hell was that meeting for?” Eli demanded, his voice low and intimidating.

“Why does it matter?” I shot back at him, figuring if I was going to get fired I might as well go out with a bang.

“Um, because it took place at my office on my time.” He was so angry his face was red and his jaw tense beneath the dark stubble.

I shook my head at him. “Can you calm down so we can talk like two civilized adults? I understand that you’re angry, but it was innocent.”
