And I agreed.

Well, I thought I agreed, right?

Fuck.

My brain was on a trip—and I hadn’t taken a single drug. I pushed through the revolving door of the building, my latte warm in my hand. I hadn’t taken a single sip of it, and while it might have saved me from burning my tongue, I would’ve welcomed any sensation other than the fucking panic that was threatening to settle in.

“Good morning, Mr. Whiss,” the security guard called out.

“Yep, you too.” I gave him a wave, ignoring the curious look on his face. I smashed the elevator button, realizing that I was turning into a grump...

Just like my dad.

I shook it off as the doors closed, leaving me alone. I glanced down at my watch after pressing the button. I was late now—not that it mattered. Well, other than that I had never been late to work before. There was just something about seeing Olivia that made everything so fucking hard.

Literally.

I was blue-balling about her—and I never did that kind of shit. There were so many options out there. I never had to worry about some girl changing her mind.

Not that they ever did.

I was always the heartbreaker, keeping women at arm’s length for the good of everyone. I don’t know why it was so hard for me to do the same thing with Olivia. It shouldn’t have been this hard.

“Hey, boss,” Mason called out as I stepped into the office. “You’re late.”

“Yeah, tell me something I don’t already know,” I snapped.

His face filled with surprise. “You okay, man?”

“Yeah,” I grumbled, taking a few steps forward. “Coffee shop line was just too long.”

“That’s the worst. Just a heads up, though, Harlee is in a meeting in the conference room.”

My heart stopped and I spun back around. “What? No one told me there was any meeting with her this morning.”

His mouth dropped open a few inches. “Um...Olivia seemed to be in control of it.”

My chest burned with irritation. Of course it was Olivia who had planned a fucking meeting without me knowing. I gritted my teeth so hard that it sent a stabbing pain through the side of my jaw. I tried to hold my breath steady as I stormed through the main office, heading toward the conference room.

“Hey, Eli.” Zena stood up quickly from her chair, her eyes wide. “She’s almost done—”

“No one fucking meets with our biggest client without me knowing it,” I cut her off, my voice sharp. I had no idea why the anger was pulsing so strongly through my veins, but it was overwhelming.

“She’s not—”

“I don’t want to hear it, Zena.” I held up a hand. “I get that you’re work buddies or whatever, but this is my problem, and I’ll deal with it. We have rules.”

Zena looked terrified as I left her standing there, the entire office staring at me.

Fuck it. This is my business.

OLIVIA

“Okay, so that should be everything that Jenna needs.” Harlee smiled, sitting with her legs crossed, her Converse tennis shoes strangely out of place in the luxurious conference room. “I’m really excited for—”

The conference room door flung open, slamming into the wall with a thud. I whipped my head around, startled to see Eli storming in, his blue eyes laced with...anger.
