But it was my chuckle and Crew’s giggle that was seen when none of us had realized that three people were standing in the open doorway.

And every single one of them had shocked expressions on their faces.

“Hey Mom, Dad, Lily, allow me to introduce to you my woman, Aliyah, and her son, Crew.”

Chapter 11

Aliyah

Needless to say, within the first five minutes, I knew that I could trust them with Crew. They were all fascinated with him.

It was as we were in the kitchen, I had just handed Melanie the flowers and Daemon handed her the bottle of wine, when I said, “Y’all have a beautiful home.”

“Thank you, sweetie.” Then she took the flowers and put them in water.

“So, what are you going to school for?” Lily asked me.

I smiled and said, “Graphic Design.”

She gasped, “Are you really?”

I nodded, then pulled my phone out and showed her some of the recent ads that I had done.

Then she ran and grabbed her sketchbook.

It was while she was gone that I looked at the woman, tilted my head, and then my eyes got wide, “You were at the game that day.”

She laughed, “It’s great to see you again, sweetheart.”

Once Lily ran back into the kitchen, William turned to Daemon, and said, “Come take a look at this new car I got. You're going to love it.”

I expected him to nod and head off with Willian, but no, he didn’t do that. He leaned down and whispered in my ear, “That okay with you? I don’t want you to be uncomfortable?”

I shook my head, and lowered my own voice, “These people are important to you. I want to get to know them.”

The slow smile that formed on his face? There was nothing I wouldn’t do to keep it there for all time.

Daemon looked down at Crew and asked, “Want to go with the men?”

Crew looked at me for permission, so I nodded.

Then Daemon grinned, leaned down, pressed a soft, sweet kiss on my lips, and picked up Crew, “You ready, buddy?”

Crew was so excited that he fist-bumped the air, “Yeah, let’s go.”

I watched as Daemon carried Crew out the back door and then down the steps and to the garage.

“Thank you, sweet girl,” Melanie said.

I looked at her and then got confused, “Why are you thanking me?”

“We’ve been in his life since he was nine years old. And not once. Not in all the years have we ever seen that boy smile. So, thank you.”

I didn’t know what else to say, so I simply smiled and asked, “Is there anything I can do to help?”

She smiled an all-knowing smile, and together we peeled the potatoes.

After that was done, I settled on the island and looked at Lily’s sketchbook, and I was amazed at how good she was.
