I crossed my arms over my chest. "You're just saying that to make yourself feel better. You broke his heart, and you'll never be able to make it up to him."

Her jaw clenched. "I don't need to make it up to him, Christian. He treated me like dirt, and I had every right to leave him. And I'm not going to apologize for that."

Sophie stepped in again. "Can we please focus on the wedding? It's supposed to be a happy occasion, not a time to rehash old wounds."

Alex and I glared at each other for a moment longer before finally relenting. I’d let it go for now.

“You best watch your back,” I snarled at her finally.

With that, I stormed past them and disappeared down the hallway.

Alex’s POV

I pulled open the door and stepped into the nicely chilled wedding supply store. Sophie gasped. “Look at the chandelier,” she whispered.

After the tense encounter with Christian, wedding planning was a relief, and we let our excitement take over. We'd spent some time at Nathan’s penthouse making a list of all the things we thought we’d need.

Nathan and Sophie wanted a big wedding, Sophie to please her rich parents and Nathan because he gave Sophie whatever she wanted.

The store was an array of colors and decorations. Sparkling crystals hung from the ceiling, and bright floral arrangements adorned the tables throughout.

Sophie made her way excitedly to the centerpieces, examining each one carefully. I trailed behind, offering my opinions and ideas where needed. I moved over to a table against the wall that held porcelain table decorations. The pieces were beautiful, and the colors were very vivid.

Sophie was in a conversation with the lady in blue who'd been admiring the centerpieces along with her. I walked over to them. I’d ask Sophie about the porcelain pieces later.

"What do you think of these?" Sophie asked pointing to the tiny bouquets of flowers in tiny terra-cotta pots. The pots looked classic.

The woman smiled, "Oh, I think they're absolutely stunning. I was considering them for my own wedding."

Sophie and the woman kept up their conversation, talking about their wedding plans and exchanging ideas. I wandered off, and strolled around the store, admiring the decorations and wedding favors on display. I made notes on the ones I liked, so I could go over it all with Sophie when we got home.

I rejoined her by the flowers. “Have you decided what kind of flowers you want for the ceremony?" I asked her. She was staring at the bouquets of orchids set against the wall in tall vases.

"Not yet. I was thinking of going for white roses or peonies, but I haven't made a final decision. Everything’s just so beautiful. Any suggestions?"

“I think peonies would be gorgeous. They're classic and timeless, exactly like you and Nathan,” I replied.

“You’re calling us old?” Sophie asked suspiciously, taking a step forward in mock threat.

“I’d never!” I replied, laughing aloud at the very unthreatening picture she made.

“Let’s check out the peonies,” I said leading the way through the store. As we browsed the selection of bouquets, Sophie's eyes lit up.

"Oh, Alex, look at these! They're perfect!" She whispered reverently, stretching her hands to pick up the flowers.

I turned towards her. She was holding out a gorgeous arrangement of peonies.

The flowers boasted large round blooms made up of layer upon layer of delicate petals. The deep pink at the center faded out into a calm fuchsia as it crept toward the edge. The flowers emitted a delicate fragrance, and their sheer beauty was nothing short of breathtaking. It was no surprise they were regarded as one of the most beautiful flowers in the world.

“It’s beautiful!” I gasped, stretching my hands towards the blooms.

The texture was velvety and soft.

“But didn’t you say you preferred the white?” I asked.

“These are just so lovely though. We could add some white peonies to the bouquet.”
