“No, we’re in close quarters.”

“Well, we can all do our part to keep the ship clean. Hygiene is important."

My fake public service announcement was met with sudden silence. Gravix and Zorbluk looked right past me. I followed their gazes to see Faye enter the kitchen. Her damp red-brown hair was piled high on her head. She looked fresh and radiant.

And she wore one of my Cubs t-shirts.

What was she when she wasn’t arresting guys like me, a part-time magician? I couldn’t help noticing how she transformed that piece of oversized boxy cotton into something way hotter than a tight dress. The fabric draped gently over her curves. It hinted at her figure underneath, making me more than curious to see what she concealed.

My cock was trying to get my attention, too. Give me a break. I couldn’t get a hard-on in the fucking kitchen.

"Oops, wrong turn. Sorry." Faye padded away. The length of the shirt stopped mid-thigh on her. She kept the giant bag holding her new soap collection in front of her legs as she hurried away.

"Faye." I began to follow her. Gravix and Zorbluk, those two goons, showed me food-stained grins as I ran out of the kitchen.

I caught up with her in the corridor. "Faye, hold up."

She stopped walking. Her feet were clad in fluffy, almost furry-looking socks. I cracked a smile at her quirky choice in footwear. How did she manage to look sexy and adorable at the same time? "Did you get turned around?"

"I guess so. I thought my room was that way. Usually, I have a good memory."

"I know the feeling. I’m a little out of sorts these days, too. Must be the change in atmosphere."

She kept a sweet, polite smile while I rambled. Oh, I remembered what it felt like to kiss those lips. "I hope you don't mind me borrowing one of your shirts. I didn't have anything to sleep in."

In the nude was always a great choice. In my bed, even better.

"No, no, it’s fine." I waved off her concern, trying to support the little composure I had left. "You can use anything you need from my room." I almost offered to lend her a pair of Cubs shorts, but her outfit didn’t need anything else. There was my executive decision, and I was sticking to it.

She clutched the soap bag in front of her. "Well, good night." She backed into the door of the storage room. I didn’t get a chance to see the alternate view of her as the door slid closed.

I stared at it. "Um, Faye?"

"Yes?" She asked from behind the door.

"I’m not going to keep you locked in there a second night. I’ll tell you the code. You’re free to change it to what you want. No need to tell me or the others what the new code is. You deserve privacy. You’re not a prisoner on the ship."

A few seconds passed before she responded to my run on sentences. Then I heard her soft voice through the door. "Thank you, Klinn. I’m glad you trust me by giving me this access."

"I trust you with my life, right?" My words kept getting more awkward and all feely by the minute. I had to put on the breaks before she noticed. "Here’s the code." I told her and left her to decide what she wanted to do. "Good night."

I returned to the kitchen to finish what was probably a very cold dinner. Gravix and Zorbluk didn’t so much as move since I'd been away.

"Aw, you two didn’t need to wait up for me."

Gravix chugged on his water and set the glass down with a thunk. "It seems like Faye is quite comfortable raiding your wardrobe."

Zorbluk chimed in with a chuckle, barely able to contain himself. "I think it's safe to say she looks better in that shirt than you ever will, my friend."

I opened the box of borga ribs, and they were as I expected. Ice cold. "You got your jokes in. Tell me something useful."

"We’re broke."

I dropped a rib. "What?"

"We don’t have any money." Gravix grumbed. "We spent it all on supplies and fuel in Malecor."

"I spent what I had on me in Malecor to get stuff for Faye." I hadn't expected a trip to the space hub would drain my financial resources faster than a hyperdrive jump.
