I heard him call back to my guards, and moments later both SUVs drove past me towards Armarow.

I could see the glow of the elaborate estate through the trees but I knew from my walk to the Village, it wasn’t as close as it looked. “Just leave me alone.” I huffed, swinging my arms and walking on the uneven brick walkway.

“Why?” He asked, walking a few feet behind me. “You wanted me here tonight. So why pretend like you didn’t?”

“I didn’t want you here!” I turned on him and poked my finger into his chest.

“Liar.” He grabbed my hand and pinned it behind my back so fast I didn’t have time to prepare for him to be in my personal space. “You defiantly left Armarow and snuck off so I’d come home and bring you back.” His nostrils flared as I fought his hold on me, pushing against him with my free hand. “You’re a brat. You were pissed because I wasn’t giving you the attention you crave, so you acted out.”

We were under the last streetlamp before the road turned nearly pitch black and I could barely make out the details of his face thanks to the shadows. It didn’t matter though, I had them memorized. “Fuck off.” I seethed, “Just go back to doing God knows what with God knows who in your dirty little city and leave me alone!”

His eyebrow rose and a smirk pulled his lip back. “Is that what has you riled? Does the idea of me fucking my mistress in my penthouse bother you, Little One?”

“Ugh!” I yelled, bucking against him and twisting until he let go of my arm a millisecond before it broke. Shock darkened his face at my recklessness. “I don’t care what you do as long as you leave me alone!”

I turned and started to walk away again but he grabbed a handful of my hair and pulled me around, backing me up until my back pressed against a tree just out of the lamppost light. “Liar.” He breathed against my lips, pressing his body against mine and the fight I had in me dissipated as I sagged against him. His hold on my hair loosened but he didn’t let go, “I didn’t come here to fight with you.”

“You just came to boss me around then, is that it?” I questioned, looking at his chin and letting my eyes adjust to the darkness until I could make out the features of his perfect face at such a close distance.

“I came-” He paused, “Because you scared me.”

I swallowed and looked up further until I met his eyes, “What do you mean?”

“When I got the call that you were gone,” He slid his thigh between mine and lifted me by it until my toes hardly touched the ground. The rough bark of the tree dug into my back, and I gripped the soft fabric of his sweater in my fingers. “I was scared that you werereallygone.”

I sighed and watched his eyes dip to the cleavage showing above the neckline of my sweater. “Would that even bother you? If I disappeared?”

“Yes.” He answered instantly.

“Why?” I prodded. “Because I’m your property?”

“No, Little One.” He sighed, leaning down until his lips were barely touching mine, “Because I’m obsessed with you.” He licked my lips and I melted further. “Even if you hate me.”

“I don’t want to hate you,” I whispered, admitting something I didn’t even realize myself until I uttered the words.

He smiled and I could feel it, “We don’t exactly make it easy on each other, do we?”

I shook my head.

He removed his thigh from between mine, letting my feet fall flat on the ground, and pulled me off the tree. “A truce then?” He slid his fingers free of my hair and then gently smoothed it out. “Because I don’t want to hate you anymore either, Arianna.”

“But you do.”

He didn’t answer right away and backed up, letting go of me completely until he stood under the light again, “I don’t know.” He ran his palm over his jaw, “I don’t think so though.”

“I think that’s the nicest thing you’ve ever said to me.” I offered with a small smile, and he gave me one back, drawing me out of the darkness.

“Wrong.” He grunted, turning back toward Armarow and nodding for me to walk with him. “Telling you that you have a very pretty pussy was probably the nicest.”

“Good lord.” I groaned, cringing. He tipped his head back and laughed into the moonlight. For a second I just watched him as we walked down the path towards his house. “You should do that more often,” I said, as he glared at me, “Makes you look less like a wildebeest.”

“A wildebeest?” His eyes rounded and he scoffed, shaking his head and sliding his hand against the small of my back as I stumbled on the uneven ground in the dark. I let myself lean into his side as he steered me and told myself the butterflies swimming in my stomach were from the wine, he blamed my earlier outburst on when we both knew I was stone-cold sober.

“Okay, maybe more of an ox.”

“Watch it, Wife.” He swatted my ass and pulled me closer when I gasped and jumped. “Or I’ll give you a real spanking.”
