He licked his lips like he was savoring the taste of me on them, and I took a shuddering breath to calm my body’s visceral reaction to it. “Hi,” I whispered back as the Bussa family resumed passing food around, chatting amongst themselves while we were lost to ourselves.

“You look breathtaking.” He still had his hand on the back of my neck and he stroked his fingers along the sensitive skin there a few times before withdrawing them and placing his napkin in his lap.

The man had managed to soak my panties with a simple peck and only the touch of his fingertips on my neck yet was sitting there being polite like he was completely unaffected by me.

“Ari tells us that you’ve been out of town,” Isabella chatted. “Are you back for a while, or will your business take you back to the city?”

“I left the city early, unexpectedly,” He looked over at me and I shrunk in my seat under the scrutiny of it, “But I was overdue to return home anyway. So I’ll probably stay for a while if I can manage.”

“Good to hear.” His old nanny beamed at him, “New marriages take nurturing and care to grow. You can’t do that from the city with sweet Ari here alone.”

“Sweet Ari,” He raised an eyebrow, once again glancing at me, “Will be lonely no longer.” He spoke about me like I wasn’t there and it just fueled the errant child feeling I was experiencing from the guilt of bringing drama to the Bussa doorstep.

Thankfully, my husband remained on his best behavior and didn’t embarrass me even further.

“Davide tells me that the expansion of the north lawns will be the biggest renovation Armarow has seen.” The matriarch changed topics and I picked up my fork, once again trying to enjoy the way the food tasted.

Nicholas answered her, telling her of plans I didn’t know a thing about and I silently ate my meal. I was beginning to relax and allowed the conversation to draw me back in, chatting easily with the family when my husband switched his fork into his left hand and then reached over and put his warm palm on my thigh. I forced the bite of food down and licked my lips, risking a glance at him from under my eyelashes, and found him completely ignoring my reaction to his touch.

He chatted on, charming the entire Bussa family, Molly included, with his attentive conversation and easy-going nature.

Meanwhile, I felt perspiration collecting on the back of my neck, slowly running down my spine as he slid his hand further between my thighs, forcing me to uncross my legs so he could fit.

My face bloomed bright red from the effect he was having on my body and I took a calming breath to relax my tense body.

“Ari,” Isabella asked, drawing my attention from where I sat staring down at my fork unmoving. “Are you okay?”

“Hmm.” I nodded, grasping my wine glass with a shaking hand and taking a sip, “I’m quite well, thank you. Just lost in thought.”

“You look flushed,” Her brows pinched in the center. “Is it the wine? The vintage is quite heavy.”

“That’s probably it,” Nico answered for me, taking the glass from my hand before setting it down in front of his plate. “Drink some water, Little One.” He switched the red wine for my glass of water, and I fought the urge to glare at him.

I brought the glass to my lips and let the cold refreshing liquid slide over my tongue as everyone watched me questioningly. My darling husband, however, took their distraction to slide his hand even higher, pressing the knuckle of his pinky firmly against my hot center and rubbing a fast circle around it.

I coughed and choked on the water, barely covering my mouth to stem the flow of water before I made a true fool of myself.

“I’m sorry.” I gasped, covering my face with my hand as my blush built even more. “I don’t know what’s come over me.”

“Perhaps we should get home,” Nico said, pulling my napkin from his lap and scooting his chair back. “I apologize.” He said to the hosts.

“No worries,” Isabella and Davide both stood, reassuring us as they watched on in concern.

I grimaced at Molly who nodded knowingly and I ran from the house, positively mortified.

I angrily walked down the road away from the house and glared at where my guards Saul and Dio leaned against the hood of a sleek SUV parked next to Nico’s with his second Matteo watching me closely from the front seat. “Just couldn’t give me a few hours, could you?” I yelled at them, not expecting a reply, which of course they didn’t give me.

“Where are you going?” Nico caught up behind me and pulled my arm back, forcing me to face him. “The cars are back there.”

“What is wrong with you!” I snapped, shoving his chest angrily but he simply smirked down at me.

“I missed you too, Wife.”

“Ugh!” I groaned loudly and turned away from him before I gave in to the urge to strike him in the middle of the dark street.

It was late, and the street was empty, but it was stillhisstreet. This was his town and I wasn’t dumb enough to poke the monster in him in front of his people.

I learned that lesson hard enough as a kid with my father.
