My cock jumps at the way she says my name. But I won’t be distracted. “Kitten, if you go up there, I’m going to lose my fucking mind. Please, stay here.”

“Do you trust me?” she asks, a teasing glint in her eye.

“Not fucking right now, I don’t.”

She laughs. “Come on, it’s safe. I promise.” She pulls away from me and hops up onto the ledge again. Like there’s a damn string connecting me to her, my body follows, even as warning bells ring inside my head, screaming that this is a really bloody bad fucking idea.

I throw my leg over the ledge and pull myself up, but I hold desperately to the side that isn’t fifty floors above the ground, bile rising in my throat. Meanwhile, Cat dangles her legs over the other side, scaring the shit out of me.

“Will you please turn around? Just look down. I promise it’s not as scary as you think,” she says with enough sass to make me consider it.

I swallow and force myself to look, my body still straddling the surface of the roof’s edge.

She swings her legs again and tips forward, pointing below her. “See, there’s a ledge,” she says.

My lips fold in on themselves tightly, trying to smother my own scream, but I spot something that looks similar to concrete only a few feet down.

I sigh. “Why didn’t you fucking lead with that?”

She laughs as she motions to me. “And miss seeing you straddling a wall and holding on for dear life like some vortex is going to suck you in? Nah, I much prefer this version,” she teases.

I right myself on the ledge and dust off my pants. “You’re a brat.”

She sticks out her tongue, drawing my attention to her plump lips.

“You thinking about kissing me?” she asks.

I shake my head. “I’m not going to kiss you,” I say firmly, although I can’t help but lick my lips at the very thought of doing so.

“You’re not?” she asks with a frown.

“Is that why you brought me here? You want me to kiss you?”

She pushes her tongue into her cheek, then murmurs, “Not if you don’t want to kiss me.”

“This conversation is going in circles,” I say with a smile, all thoughts of our location long forgotten.

“I just thought,” she starts, but then she stops and turns away from me, studying the view in front of us. “You…” she tries again, and then she quiets, her shoulders slumping.

I take her hand and lace our fingers together. The simple feel of her long fingers linking with mine makes my stomach somersault. Her skin is soft, and once again, her entire body melts next to mine. My touch alone does that to her. The girl who normally holds herself together, who wears armor during every interaction, protecting a part of her I’ve only seen glimpses of, softens forme.

“You thought correct,” I reply, using my other hand to pull her chin so she’s looking at me. Her brown eyes search mine, her lashes fluttering as I rub against her jaw. “I want to kiss you.And I will kiss you. But not this afternoon.”

She opens her eyes and scrutinizes me, her forehead crinkling in confusion. And perhaps disappointment.

I snuff that out right away. “You deserve a perfect first kiss, Kitten. Movie style. Fireworks. Music in the background. Romance.”

Surprise dances in her eyes, but she doesn’t speak.

“You deserve it all, Catherine Bouvier. And I intend to give it to you.”

“See, you are capable of being swoon-worthy without ruining it,” she says as a smile plays on her plump red lips.

I lean in close, my lips brushing the shell of her ear and sending shivers rippling through her. “And then I’m going to fuck you, Kitten, and you’re going to see stars.”

Her resounding laugh leaves us both smiling.
