“Sounds good. I’ll check my email several times tomorrow.”

“There’s not many of us, so it shouldn’t be a problem for me.”

“Perfect.”

They stood there together, waiting, and finally she smiled tenderly at him.

“I’m going to need my hand to come back through the fence, so I can go inside… which means you’ll need to let go, Austin,” she murmured softly, feeling incredible in this moment and how she felt.

He released her hand slightly, holding onto her fingers. As he turned her hand just a bit, her heart skipped a beat as he bowed and unbelievably kissed the back of her hand, like she was some medieval princess… before releasing her hand completely.

“Goodnight, my sweet Giselle.”

“Sweet dreams, my knight,” she whispered, withdrawing her hand and laying it against her chest, above her heart. Her other hand clenched the noisy wrapper of the little pecan pie, crinkling audibly as he picked up the empty glass bottle that somehow got propped against the fence in the sand at their feet.

“I’ll see you tomorrow… same time.”

“I’ll be here.”

As she walked inside, her entire being was humming with joy and she felt like she could dance upon the clouds at this moment. Austin had held her hand, asked her to go away with him so they could pretend to be a normal couple, and asked her out on a date.

Could life get any better than that?

Just for giggles, she checked her email one more time – and let out a tearful chuckle, touched beyond belief that he’d snuck in another line to their story.

My lovely Giselle,

Once upon a time…

Long, long ago…

There was a HANDSOME knight…

And a frustrated but BREATHTAKING paladin with infinite patience…

Who put up with the devilish rascal, because it made them both incredibly happy to take five minutes a day to see each other, share brief messages, and snack on unexpected delights in the moonlight…

But what that knight didn’t know was the paladin yearned for what she could not have, searching the world over for a treasure few would discover…

What a journey it would be - especially if they traveled together, pairing their skills and attributes that made each of them special…

Though she was scared, the paladin was intrigued – wanting to know more…

And the valiant knight vowed to sweep her away to a foreign land – far, far away…

I hope you’ll go and won’t think I’m crazy – I’m just a guy who's found a girl he really admires. See you soon… and ignore me if you see me crossing my fingers and toes. I’m nervous you’re going to discover what a dud I am one of these days.

Austin

She quickly replied back – adding her line to the bottom and smiling tenderly, realizing that she really needed to thank Captain Logan one of these days if this continued along the path as she hoped it would.

CHAPTER11

SPARKY

Austin got up the next morning to see if Giselle had replied… and literally fist pumped the air.
