“I picked it.” I gave a tiny shrug. “It wasn’t hard.”

His chuckle turned my insides to mush and had heat spreading up my neck like wildfire. Did he realize the kind of effect he had? Was he doing it on purpose?

Probably.

“I saw you dancing with that male raven earlier. From what I can tell, you both came to have fun.” He reached forward and curled a lock of my hair around his finger, releasing it before doing it again. “You’re not a spy.”

Moisture left my mouth, and I shook my head, taking a step back. Shit. Icouldn’ttake a step back because I was already plastered to the wall. “If I was here to spy, I wouldn’t have gotten caught.”

He laughed again, this time louder, flashing a set of white teeth. “You’re not so easily charmed by me. It’s strange.”

“Cocky much?” Did I really just say that to the most powerful demon in Savannah and probably all of Georgia? “I’m sure plenty of women out there would love to fawn over you. You should go find them.”Someone needs to glue my mouth shut.

The demon lord stuck his hand out for me to shake. “I’m Ruin Bacchus.”

I gave an unattractive snort. “I know who you are,LordRuin Bacchus.”

He licked his lips, flashing a silver tongue ring. “If you know who I am, it’s only fair I know who you are.” His hand still hung in the air for me to take.

I reluctantly grabbed it, his fingers gently curling around mine. They felt like warm silk wrapped over titanium. “Tate.”

“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Tate.” He madepleasuresound like the dirtiest word in the dictionary.

“Yeah, same.” I pulled out of his grip and cleared my throat. “I should be getting back to my friends.”

Lord Ruin held his arm out. “It would be my pleasure to escort you.” There was that word again, like a salacious promise. His grin only widened at my humorless look.

This fucker knew exactly what he was doing.

I peeled myself from the wall and bypassed his arm. “I’m capable of walking out of here on my own. But thanks,” I added when I remembered the guy was a high demon lord and could hold me prisoner if he wanted to.

“You’re only making me like you more.” He stepped in front of me so fast to open the door I almost bumped into him. “After you.”

I slipped into the club and had every intention of finding Hawk and Roxie—more than ten minutes had passed—but Lord Ruin blocked my path.

“Would you like to dance with me, Tate?”

A laugh burst out of my mouth. “Why the hell do you want to dance with me? I doubt I’m your type, and you sure as hell aren’t mine.”

The tattoos covering his pale flesh came to life under the strobing lights as he leaned forward to whisper into my ear. “I get the feeling you don’t like demons very much. So why are you in my club tonight?”

“I let my friends talk me into coming,” I admitted, seriously regretting it. Not only did I experience some kind of weird sexual energy with a mysterious nightworlder, but I’d also caught Lord Ruin Bacchus’s attention.

A waitress in leather pants and a bikini top slinked toward us, balancing a tray of shots, her brow lifting at the nonexistent space between the demon lord and me. “Your usual, sir.”

Lord Ruin pulled away but didn’t remove his eyes from me. “Thank you, Imogen.” He took two shots, handing me one. “Since you won’t dance with me, allow me this.”

I sighed and slammed the shot back without much thought, which was stupid. It could have been poisoned or laced with Rapture.

Those sharp cheekbones lifted higher as he smiled before taking his shot. He placed our empty glasses back on Imogen’s tray and nodded in her direction as his attention remained glued to me. She took that as a dismissal and sauntered into the crowd.

“You don’t seem like the type to be easily influenced by others,” he said.

“I’m not.” And yet, I let Roxie and Hawk talk me into coming to Wrath & Ruin even though I knew it was a bad idea.

“What changed?” The demon lord sucked on his bottom lip, my skin puckering from the intensity of his heavy stare.

I’d changed a lot these last two years, and I didn’t want to fuck it all up by getting into trouble in a demon club. “I need to find my friends. Thanks for, uh, being nice.”
