Nodding my head, I agreed.

“Treasure’s tight in general. No fun if you get my drift. I wanted to offer a threesome for us to break the ice, but she’d never go for it.”

“I’ll wait outside on my hog,” I said, starting to walk out.

“There’s no need. If you ride with us, you have to ride with us.”

“I’ve got my own motorcycle,” I said. There was no way I would be riding on theirs.

“Doesn’t matter. If you’re not affiliated, don’t have colors, you ride on ours.”

Maren stepped out just then, dressed in head-to-toe leather. She looked too good to be true. A badass biker babe in her cut stood before me. I smiled at the sight of her. She turned and bent to retrieve her boots and showed me her backside. Fuck. My dick hardened at the sight of her shapely ass. I wanted to bend her over and wipe the memory of Poison’s ass out of my mind.

“Dick will ride bitch with me,” she said.

Smirking, I followed her out.

Chapter 8

Leviathan

Treasure waited for me on her Harley, the same one she had back in Tennessee, an orange Harley-Davidson Softail. She had gotten it back from Fireball at some point. It wasn’t big enough for a man my size. I was used to riding a larger bike. Swinging my leg over her smaller machine, I felt I would knock it over. I never imagined I would be riding on the back of her motorcycle, or any motorcycle, for that matter. I was far too large to fit comfortably on the rear.

“This is ridiculous,” I complained loud enough for her to hear me over the rumble of her engine.

Treasure turned her neck, shouting back, “Never rode bitch before, Dick? Do you need a helmet?”

Poison mounted her Indian, laughing at us.

I got off her hog. “You have to ride on mine. With me,” I said to her, letting my biker out, my true colors show. “I’m no one’s bitch.”

“Go ahead. Be his bitch, Treasure,” Poison encouraged her.

Giving in, Maren shut off her engine. “Fine. Just this once. Only to see if Dick can operate his big machine.”

Mounting my motorcycle, I experienced a familiar weight beneath me. I felt for the key fob in my pocket. With just a push of a button, my hog roared like a beast, heating up my thighs. I revved the engine, and a much larger growl filled the air. Much better. I put on my sunglasses. Treasure climbed on behind me, wrapping her arms tightly around my waist. I leaned back, enjoying the heat of her breasts pressed against me, something I couldn’t feel when I wore my cut. Hooking her thumbs in my pant loops, she gave me a squeeze. That was more like it. I couldn’t help but smile. My Treasure, President of my rivals, was a strong and independent woman. I admired that about her, but she was my bitch.

Shifting the motorcycle into gear, I left Galveston behind us. The gray, hazy sky gave way to brief bursts of sunshine as we headed towards Houston on the highway. The ride would be a little over an hour, but time would pass quickly. A chill cut through the layers of my clothes, making me miss my leathers. Peace washed over me for a while, drowning out all my thoughts.

I couldn’t help but feel a sense of comfort and familiarity on my own motorcycle. I was used to the balance of this machine. I felt confident in my ability to handle it and then some. I could hug the curves of the road. I could dodge the semis on the highway. I could slow down when I felt Maren’s grip slipping or when Poison fell too far behind. When I could feel Maren hold on tightly, I would speed up and leave her friend in the dust. There wasn’t much I loved more than riding my Harley.

I didn’t feel good about anything else.

My thoughts kept returning to the secrets Maren was keeping from me. I couldn’t shake the feeling that there was more going on than she was letting on. I couldn’t ignore the feeling that something was off. We were on our way to deliver a large sum of money. It had to be a front. But I didn’t give two shits about their club business. I only cared that Maren was safe.

As we rode, I could feel her leaning in close to me, her body urged up against mine. Despite everything, a sense of longing for her ran through me. I thought of us reacquainting ourselves properly. We had a complicated past, evident in what happened this morning, but I knew that there was still something special between us. I couldn’t take her back to the Royal Bastards MC in Nashville and let them torture her, kill her.

I tried to focus on the road ahead, but I couldn’t help but think about the woman who was sitting behind me on the motorcycle. On top of everything else, I had just found out about her ex-boyfriend. A fucking Asphalt God from Arkansas. Not mentioning him before, she continued to keep secrets from me. I decided to push the thoughts aside and focus on the road ahead. We had to get to Houston, and we had to do it safely.

As we approached the outskirts of Houston, I could feel the tension in the air. We were getting closer to our designated meeting spot. It didn’t look like anywhere someone should be meeting their sister-in-law or having a book signing. But you didn’t ride with outlaws anywhere assuming nothing bad would happen. Anything could happen, anywhere. Didn’t have to be in a shady-looking area like the slum we were in now. I carried Maren’s tiny pistol and hoped she was armed as well.

We pulled up to the address they supplied, and I cut my engine. Poison lagged behind. Waiting for her, Treasure got off my bike, stretching her legs. Getting up, I shook off the stiffness, too. Then I grabbed her and pulled her to me.

I needed her to know. “Treasure,” I called to her, a smile playing at my lips. “My Treasure,” I repeated myself to make her understand. “I ain’t taking you to Tennessee. I’ll figure out something, a way to save my daughters. I’ll give myself over and plead for their lives. Kingpin won’t kill little girls. He’s bluffing.”

That was what the bastard did. King of his casino at Royal Road, he liked to gamble on anything, including people’s lives. Even if I questioned her secrets, I knew I couldn’t deliver Maren to my brothers.

“You can’t just give yourself up. We will think of something together,” she said, laying her hand on my chest, over my heart. Treasure smiled so big her cheeks caught fire.
