“When I came too, I was chained out in our barn begging for my President for my life. My club knows everything. Your plans. My stupidity in believing you,” he started, scowling.

“I’ve heard. They’ve sent you after me. Looks like you finally followed the clues I left you.”

Levi stepped toward me. “Don’t act like you wanted to be found.”

“Then how did you find me? I told you I would be here in Galveston, where my little girl is.”

“Where she was,” he said, murdering me on the spot.

My chest got tight. I couldn’t breathe. But I wouldn’t let him get to me.

“I called myself Treasure for fucks’ sake,” I said, full of anger and remorse.

“Why should I believe you? An old biker traded me your secrets.”

My secrets? The ones he kept sprinkling in.

“For what?” I asked.

“For his life.”

I went to the shower and turned on the water.

“What are you doing?” he asked.

Waiting for it to warm up, I kept my hand under the spray. “What do you think? I feel disgusting.”

“I would say. With fucking two men in less than twelve hours,” he said, his eyes glaring a hole in me.

“The last one wasn’t my choice.” I stepped into the shower, closing the glass door and him away. “Fuck him. I’ve tried to explain,” I talked to myself, lathering up my loofa.

Levi slid open the door and stepped in. He had lost his pants and hung flaccid. It was still huge. The thing twitched, moved like it had a mind of its own. I tried not to look at it.

“In here talking to ghosts?” he asked, a cruel gab at me again.

“No, just talking to myself about what an asshole you’re being. You won’t believe me.”

I wouldn’t explain to Levi about the things I saw. The visions that seemed as real as him, even though I knew they weren’t solid. I could hear them just as well. Just like everyone else, Levi mocked me. Thought I was crazy. Maybe I was. At the moment, I didn’t see a thing thanks to the meds I was on.

“Why should I trust you?”

He took the loofa from me and started washing me, my arms, and my shoulders. Then his strong hands roamed my curves. The hot water cascaded down my body. Levi’s smooth movements mimicked the water. I closed my eyes, enjoying the sensation of his gentle touch.

“I know everything, Maren. I know you’ve been hiding for a long time. First in the circus until they found you out. You lied to me about taking a fall from the trapeze,” he said.

“I did not. It happened. It might not be the only reason I left, but I have the broken bones to prove it. You need to see my medical records, too?”

“What else have you lied about?” he asked, looking me in the eye, searching for something.

I wasn’t sure all he knew. I surely didn’t know everything about him and didn’t expect to. Leviathan was a notorious outlaw biker with a sordid past. With plenty of secrets, too, I was sure. I had my own past and secrets. Apparently, he trusted some intel he acquired more than me.

“I didn’t lie to you after you found out I was a spy at Royal Road. I swear. I may have not told you everything, but I didn’t lie,” I said, full of passion.

Levi’s voice was full of suspicion. “What I can’t figure out is why you used your real name at all. Merc’s file on you has plenty to choose from.”

“I don’t know why my past is any of your business. I ain’t interrogating you.”

“I didn’t betray you,” he snapped back.
