“That’s how Chase and I feel, too. As Cyn would say, ‘It’s better to be with a Wilde man than without him.’”

They shared a grin and a nod of agreement.

“Damn straight,” Kenna added.

Shelby shrugged one shoulder. “And for what it’s worth, Max was stupid to let you go. You’re awesome.”

Kenna laughed under her breath. “Thank you. I think you’re pretty cool, too.”

Shelby’s grin faded, and she stared off toward the barn where Chase had gone. “I was on my own for a long time. Cyn and you, you both lost close siblings. You, me, Cyn, we’re sisters now. We’re family. I want you to know, I’m here for you, no matter what.” Shelby’s eyes teared up.

“I feel exactly the same way.” Kenna’s heart ached for Cyn, who had lost her sister such a short time ago.

Shelby frowned. “I’m sorry about your brother.”

Her heart pinched and tears gathered in her eyes, though she fought them back. “Thank you. I’m sorry about Cyn’s sister. She and Hunt, they’re going to give Lana the most amazing life.”

Shelby smiled at Eliza running toward the house,Chase and Max walking behind her. “We, the Wildes, are going to give all the little ones in our lives the best we can, together as a family.”

Kenna’s heart overflowed with love and that very heartfelt sentiment from Shelby. She appreciated so much that Shelby included her like she was already a Wilde. Already a member of the family.

She couldn’t wait for it to be official.

She hoped it would be soon. Though she and Max had simply slid into the fact that it was coming, they hadn’t made any plans. He hadn’t asked yet.

But she had no doubt that day was coming soon.

Max loved seeing Kenna and Shelby rocking on the porch talking like two old friends. Eliza ran up the steps and held her arms out to Kenna, who immediately picked her up and set her on her lap and hugged her close.

Max and Chase stayed at the bottom of the steps looking up at their girls.

“I just got an invitation from Aria to come to the bar. Lyric, Melody, and Jax are all working tonight. Everyone missed you at Hunt’s wedding. They can’t wait to see you again. Feel like going out with me?” Max hoped she said yes and they could have some fun. He wanted to see her set aside everything they’d been through lately and enjoy herself.

Kenna didn’t hesitate. “Yes. Absolutely.” She turned to Shelby. “Can you and Chase come with us?”

“Not tonight,” Chase said, “I heard this little onedidn’t nap today, so she’s going down to bed early, which means I have plans with her mama for some quiet time alone.”

Shelby stood and picked up Eliza from Kenna’s lap. “Now that sounds like heaven to me. Let’s go, Wilde man.”

Kenna stood and hugged Shelby and Eliza all at once. “I hope I see you soon.”

“You will,” Shelby assured her.

Max joined Kenna on the porch as they waved goodbye to Chase, Shelby and Eliza, then he turned to Kenna. “You sure about going out?”

Her smile said yes. “Absolutely. It’ll be fun. I’m looking forward to seeing your family. And spending time with you is my favorite thing.”

He kissed her for being so sweet. “I’ll take a quick shower and change.”

“I’m sure I can find something cute to wear.”

He spun her around and gave her very fine ass a soft pat to get her moving into the house. “Any chance I’ll get to see those sexy legs in a dress?”

She glanced over her shoulder and gave him a sexy smile and sultry stare. “You asked for it.”

He didn’t know exactly what she meant by that until nearly twenty minutes later when he found her downstairs ready to go wearing a little black dress with a deep plunging neckline, nipped in waist, a flirty, flaring skirt that ended mid-thigh, and a pair of fuck-me strappy heels, her toenails painted her favorite fuchsia pink.

But the smile, so confident and sexy and filled with humor and happiness filled his heart with joy. She knewshe had his full attention, and that instead of taking her out, he seriously wanted to take her upstairs to bed.
