She could still make him want to drop to his knees and beg.

And he let her see it in the sweeping look he gave her because he wanted her to know it.

Because he would beg, but he didn’t have to because she wanted him just as much.

And if anyone thought they could take this from them, they had another think coming.

He held his hand out to her and smiled when she immediately took his. The brush of her skin against his electrified him. The grip of her fingers made him feel like she never wanted to let him go.

Tonight, he felt like they’d finally embraced and stepped into the couple they’d be from now on.

He couldn’t wait to get to the bar and spend another amazing evening with the woman he loved by his side.

Chapter Thirty-Five

Max held the door open to the Dark Horse Dive Bar for Kenna as they entered the packed establishment. He took Kenna’s hand and led her to the only table in the room marked RESERVED by Aria after she’d invited them to come and enjoy a blast from their past.

Kenna’s cheeks flushed with excitement. “It’s been a long time since I’ve been here.” She had to raise her voice over the music to be heard.

He bet she hadn’t stepped foot in this place since before they broke up.

“Are you sure this table is for us?”

He pulled out her stool. “Yes. Aria is expecting us.”

“How are your cousins?”

“Good. Though I suspect Aria and her boyfriend are having some issues. And Lyric got involved a little while back with some guy in a biker club, who found Cyn’s kidnapped niece, and apparently he’s still hanging around. Jax doesn’t like the look of the guy.” Max knew better but he kept that to himself.

“Are they together?”

“Nope. But the guy has a thing for her, even though they hardly ever speak to each other. Apparently he just comes in, orders a drink, and hangs out like everyone else.”

“I find it interesting that they’re so aware of each other, but they haven’t done anything about it. It’s sweet he likes her so much but is afraid to approach her.”

Max hadn’t thought about it like that. “You think he’s too shy to ask her out?”

Kenna shrugged. “I mean, I don’t know anything about the guy, except he’s part of a biker club. That kind of makes me imagine him as a badass, but that doesn’t mean he’s not shy with women. Or maybe he thinks he’s not good enough for her. Who knows? But obviously she and Jax think he likes her.”

“I guess so. It’ll be interesting to see what happens there.” Max knew that to be true.

He spotted his other cousin coming their way. “And then there’s Melody, who should be arrested for indecent exposure,” he said loud enough for her to hear him as she approached.

“Good thing you came instead of Hunt,” she teased and went right in for a hug with Kenna.

“I love that color on you.” Kenna always found something nice to say.

The purple dress was a good color on Melody with her dark hair and blue eyes. It outlined every curve. No wonder Jax kept a close eye on Melody in the bar. Every dude in the room had their eyes on her. A few looked like they didn’t want to keep their hands to themselves.

“Thank you,” Melody said, smiling at Kenna. They’d always gotten along. “I’m happy you two found your way back to each other. I only got the CliffsNotes on how that happened. I want all the deets soon.” She elbowed Max in the gut. “I’ve missed seeing you in here all the time.”

“We’ve got Christmas around the corner. We’ll be together for all the family stuff.”

Melody smiled. “It’s nice there’s a lot more of us now. I’d like to see Jax find a woman he can’t live without.”

“Don’t you want a guy... or a girl,” Kenna tacked on, not wanting to make assumptions, always open to who and what anyone wanted to be, “you can’t live without?”

“I’ll probably be the last to fall.”
