There was a tap on my driver’s side window and it startled the hell out of me. When I looked up, I was shocked to see Zac standing beside my car with his cellphone pressed to his ear, staring straight at me. I wiped my eyes again and then noticed Zac’s were red and his cheeks were streaked. He’d been quietly crying while on the phone too.

“Are you willing to wait for a forever with me?” he asked again.

I ended our call, tossed my cellphone onto the passenger seat, and then got out of my car. Everything around me was a blur except for this man standing in front of me who’d so unexpectedly stolen my heart away. His chest was rising and falling just as quickly as mine was and the quiver of his bottom lip matched mine.

When I nodded my head yes, he whispered, “Please say it, Stevie. I need to hear you say it.”

His voice cracked as he spoke those words, and hearing that, as well as seeing the burning look in his beautiful eyes, I told my lover what he needed to hear and what I wanted to say.

“Yes—I’ll wait for a forever with you.”

Zac had me in his arms within seconds and his lips on mine. Our emotions poured from our eyes while we kissed and even after we stopped. I rested my head on Zac’s chest while he hugged me so tightly. But as we continued standing next to my car, the reality of where we were began sinking in. That and the risk that we were still taking of being seen together in this way.

I lifted my head off Zac’s chest to look around the parking lot and strangely, no one was near. No one had witnessed a thing.

“See? We just had another door open for us,” Zac said, smiling down at me.

“This lot is always so busy. It was until you showed up.”

Zac nodded and then began running his fingertips across my cheek. “Are you okay?”

“Yes. Are you?”

“I am now. I thought I was about to lose you.”

“Like you told me right before you kissed me on my lips that first time… I’m not going anywhere.”

Zac shook his head and then sighed. “I don’t feel like going back to my office. I just wanna spend the rest of this day with you.”

“I wish we could.”

“But we can’t. I know.”

“It won’t be too long before we get to have our dessert,” I said, grinning.

“And I plan on savoring every bite of it.”

“So do I.”

Zac and I noticed a car heading our way and looked back at one another.

“You better go,” he said, stepping away from me.

“I need to. I know Brooke is wondering where I am. It’s fine, though. I’m just gonna tell her that I needed to drive around for a while after what happened with Mr. Ferguson.”

“Okay.”

As the car passed us by, we both waved at the driver. Neither of us knew him, though, which was a relief.

“You better go too,” I said.

Zac looked around, then quickly stepped back up to me and cradled my face in his hands. “I wanna tell you in person now that I love you. I love everything about you, Stevie, and believeme, I know how crazy it is that we’ve fallen for each other this fast. But I couldn’t help it.”

“Same here.”

Another car started heading in our direction and Zac stepped away from me again.

“I’ll see you this afternoon,” he said, glancing down at my lips.
