“Shit,” I grumble. I don’t bother running after him. The only body I want to deal with tonight is David’s.

“He exited the house,” Alex updates. “And the other guy is off camera for now. I should see him on the one by the property’s edge any second—fuck. Found Willow. She’s by the car.”

“Willow, what the hell,” Felix says. “I was headed in that direction anyway.”

“I’m fine,” she snaps.

Finally.

“What are you thinking?” Felix demands, but he doesn’t get a response.

“Shit,” Alex says. “Guy two is on the camera again. He spotted you, Willow. Either get the hell out of there or get ready to fight—ah. Yeah, she chose to fight. Don’t know what else I expected.”

Jesus fuck. This is a disaster.

After a minute, Alex says, “She got away. He’s getting into his car.”

“Where is she?” Felix snaps.

“Heading back for the house,” Alex replies.

“I’mfine,you worry wort,” Willow says.

“It looks like he stabbed you,” Alex says flatly.

“Okay, mostly fine.”

“Everyone meet in the camera room,” I say. “That way we can keep an eye on everything in case they come back.”

I head that way, stopping to grab Alex’s first aid kit from the kitchen. When I get to the camera room, Felix is yanking Willow’s jacket off. Blood is running down her arm.

“Let me help,” I say, opening up the kit.

Willow pushes me away, getting blood on my shirt. “I don’t need any of your help.”

“Too bad.” Felix shoves her to the floor so she’s lying on her back, and then he straddles her hips, keeping her from getting up.

“Get off me!”

He doesn’t answer, instead grabbing the first aid kit from my hands. Willow swats at him, a string of hateful words spewing from her mouth.

“If you don’t shut up, I’m not afraid of a little duct tape,” Felix says. “Or a lot.”

That seems to do the trick. She settles down, letting Felix dab at the wound with gauze. When he pours some rubbing alcohol over it, she hisses, glaring.

“What the fuck were you doing?” Alex says, giving her the barest of glances before turning back to the security camera feeds.

“I knew it wasn’t him,” she says. “The second Alex said there was more than one person. David would’ve come alone.”

That’s right. I forget that Willow worked for David, even if it was only as his cleaning lady. How on earth she found herself employed by the man is beyond me, although it seems like she did it on purpose. I’m just glad she has extra insight into how he thinks.

“So you headed toward the car to...?” I shrug, waiting for her to go on.

“Put a tracker on it to lead us back to David.”

Oh. That’s . . . smart.

“You could’ve just said that,” Felix grouses.
