Maybe I shouldn’t feel guilty, but I do. I’ve known Brooke since we were kids, and the four of us have always been close. I should’ve looked out for her more. We all should’ve. Not only did David hurt her physically, but he broke her heart in every way imaginable.

It’s one of the many reasons I’m ready to be done with him.

At least Brooke has Blaze. And at least he’s back to loving her the way he should.

“He’s trying to get in the door by the pool,” Alex says. “Looks like he’s picking the lock.” A couple seconds go by. “He’s in.”

“Willow, you’re closest to that door,” Felix says.

No answer.

“Willow?”

Alex swears. “I could see her on my feed a second ago. She’s gone.”

“Fuck,” Felix and I say at the same time.

Willow doesn’t respond—either because she can’t or because she’s decided to do her own thing. But we don’t have time to figure out where she went.

“The man in the car is out and moving for the house. Sticking to the wall I have around the yard.”

“Willow,” Felix snaps, “where are you?”

Still no answer.

“I’ll head closer to the pool door,” I say. “Alex, you haven’t seen anyone else, right? No one could’ve snuck up on her?”

“No, I was watching closely. Goddammit, I shouldn’t’ve let her look at the cameras earlier. She must’ve found the blind spots.”

“I’m going to kill her if she fucks this up,” Felix grits out.

“Not if I get to her first,” Alex says.

“If you touch her,” Felix growls, “I will personally yank every single tooth from your mouth in the most painful way possible.”

What the fuck?

“Jesus Christ. Dom, are you hearing this?”

“Let’s just stay focused,” I say, creeping down the hallway. When I hear footsteps, I freeze.

If this is David, I don’t care what Willow wants. I’m shooting the second I see him.

The footsteps start to fade.

“He’s heading deeper into the house,” I say quietly, edging forward and peeking around the corner. I just barely spot a tall, lanky figure making its way down the hall. I duck back. “It’s not him. Wrong height, wrong body shape.”

“Maybe he’s the one coming from the car,” Alex says.

Or maybe he’s not here at all, and he sent his men because he suspected it was a trap.

Slowly, I start following the tall man down the hallway, keeping my footsteps as quiet as possible. Alex updates Felix on where the other guy is.

“Fuck,” my guy says. “Why is this place so confusing?”

He turns around, and I try to duck into a doorway, but I’m not fast enough. His gaze goes instantly to my gun.

“It’s a trap,” he yells, I assume into his own earpiece, as he breaks into a run. “Get back to the car.”
