I haven’t forgotten how reckless Willow was Friday night. From how Felix described it, she deliberately put herself in the line of fire. For what? Because she was desperate to catch David? We all are.

“We’ll need to be careful.” I say it to everyone, but I give Willow a pointed stare.

She rolls her eyes.

“You need to take this seriously,” Felix snaps. “David already almost killed Blaze. You think he won’t take you out if he thinks you’re standing in between him and Brooke? He will.”

“I’m well aware.”

“No, you’re not. Either that, or you have a deathwish.”

She crosses her arms, setting her jaw and staring out the window.

Am I the only one concerned that she’s not denying Felix’s accusation?

“Let’s do it,” Alex says. “I want Brooke to be able to come home.”

“Where? Blaze’s house doesn’t make sense since David broke into it. Brooke’s place?”

“No, she has the worst security out of all of us, and David knows it. If Blaze and Brooke were actually coming out of hiding, they wouldn’t stay there.”

“Then where?” Willow asks.

“My place,” Alex says. “After everything that’s happened, I had Grayson Security install security cameras all over my property, along with all the other precautions I was already taking. It’s the most secure.”

I nod in agreement. “If it looks like Brooke and Blaze are staying there, David will try to sneak in. But with all the cameras, we’ll be able to spot him way before he gets to the house.”

“Perfect.” Willow jumps from her seat. “Let’s do it.”

“Not right now,” Felix snaps. “We’re not running into this hotheaded. We—” he waves to me, Alex, and himself, “—actually take the time to use our heads.”

Rolling her eyes, Willow plops back down. “Fine. But remember—David is mine. And I want him alive.”

. . .

We decide to do it that night. The plan is simple: Alex will watch all the cameras from inside his camera room, and Felix, Willow, and I will be hiding at different spots in the house, waiting for his instructions. We’ll all be able to talk to each other with the earpieces we’re borrowing from Grayson Security.

The idea is to let David sneak into the house and then not let him leave. We’ll corner him or shoot him or knock him out—whatever it takes. And, per Willow’s demands, we’re keeping him alive. I’d say I’m concerned about what she’s planning on doing to David, but I’m not. The piece of shit deserves whatever’s coming for him.

Alex’s mansion is huge. Too huge, if you ask me, but he built it for the woman he’s loved since he was a teenager. I didn’t understand at the time, but now? There are few things I wouldn’t do to convince Jade of how I feel. And, most importantly, that I’m here to stay.

After work, I was hoping to have even a half hour of time to see Jade, but I barely have time to change out of my work clothes and into dark jeans, a T-shirt, and a jacket. Her and Rosie are outside when I head to Alex’s, and I wave as I drive past.

I don’t miss the look of guarded disappointment on Jade’s face. And who can blame her? I’ve barely had time to send her a text over the past few days. It probably looks like I slept with her a few times, got my fill, and dropped her.

Which is exactly what she said she was planning on doing to you.

Maybe that should make me feel better, but it doesn’t. I’ve gained Jade’s trust—enough that she let me take control of her. Enough that she let me tie her up. The last thing I want her to do is doubt how I feel about her, even if she’s not ready to admit she feels the same way about me.

I think, anyway.

When I get to Alex’s, I pull into the garage, next to Felix’s car. We don’t want David seeing a whole bunch of vehicles in the driveway and getting suspicious. Which is precisely why the only car that will be outside is Brooke’s, which Alex grabbed after we updated Brooke and Blaze about what’s going on.

They’re safe, still miles away, but I wanted Blaze in on our plan anyway.

“This is going to require a lot of waiting,” I hear Felix saying as I walk into the living room.

“Stop treating me like a child,” Willow snaps.
