Jake had me firmly in his capable arms within moments and in a coordinated gesture, he removed my hat, dipped me low and kissed me soundly.

I could feel my hair blowing in a gentle breeze as it hung precariously close to the ground. Jake cradled my lower back with a single strong hand. And my free hand was holding my camera to the side while my other gripped his arm.

If I wasn’t so caught up with losing myself in the moment, it would have been the perfect picture. On par with when Harry and Meghan Markle were photographed under the umbrella with the backlighting that could have made Annie Leibovitz jealous.

Lopsidedly, Jake placed my hat back on my head. “You taste like a snack too,” I informed him. I licked my bottom lip contemplatively. “Peach rings?”

Jake extracted a half-eaten bag from his pocket, confirming my suspicions. “I’ll get you a full bag later.” He leaned down close to my ear as he hugged me. “I couldn’t stop thinking about how sweet you taste and until I could get my mouth on you, this was the next best thing.”

Arnold, who had been off to the side with the other dude—Chris!that was his name—took that particular moment to clear his throat. “Are you serious right now?”

Jen scolded him. “Shh, they’re having a moment, you idiot.” Then she leaned into Andy and surmised, “I can’t believe a virginal Velram fan is dating the biggest Velram star…” That made two of us.

Jake and I reluctantly broke apart.

“Jen, Andy?” Jake acknowledged, straightening himself. “From what Luce has told me, congratulations are in order.” He smiled warmly at both of them.

Neither of them spoke, though.

“Are you two catching flies?” Arnold prodded. “Jake Stanley is speaking to you!”

It was enough to snap them out of being starstruck. Jake shook Andy’s hand and gave Jen a hug.

“Mind if I crash a few of your wedding pics?” Jake held his hands out, hopeful.

“That’d be fucking awesome, dude.” Andy had a way with words.

“Tell us what to do Lucy,” Jake requested, nestling himself between the bride and groom.

So I did. It only took a few minutes and a couple of jokes from Jake before Jen and Andy were comfortable around him.

In less than ten minutes I had a slew of images augmented by Jake.

“Thanks for letting me be a part of your big day,” Jake told them genuinely.

“Thankyou,” they crooned in unison.

We all said our goodbyes and I promised to be in contact with them soon. Jake helped me gather my gear and we started walking back to the hotel.

“Please tell me you didn’t cheat your parents out of another three days with you…” I implored.

“Nah, they got tired of me being around.”

I playfully slapped at his stomach. Which was rock solid. “Liar. They did not.”

He chuckled. “Sort of. They said, and I quote, ‘We are delighted to have you home, Jakey, but we can tell you’re preoccupied. Who’s the girl, then?’ So,” he continued, “I left a few days early. I wanted to surprise you.” He looked pleased with himself.

“Oh, you surprised me alright. I thought you were the papzz sneaking up behind me,” I admitted.

“And what would you have done if one of them kissed you like I just did?” he wondered.

“Well,” I began slowly, “they’d most likely be much more attractive than you—you’re kind of slacking these days—so I probably would’ve just enjoyed it,” I teased. “Maybe invited him back to my room, who knows?” I shrugged my shoulders noncommittally.

“Is that right?” He scratched his stubbled jaw with his free hand.

“Yup. Got a problem with that?” I taunted.

“I’m not afraid of competition.”
