I grab his jacket, jerking my head down the hall towardclass.
The hit of pleasure knowing Tyler and I will be outcasts together is short-lived.
Because at Oakwood, things can always getworse.

“You really fucked yourself,”I tell him as we head for our class. “Carly’s in AP English with us, and she won’t forget what youdid.”
“My bad. I’ll try to follow your cues in the future.” He sends me a wink that makes me want to squeeze my bare legstogether.
“Whatever. Let’s get through one period,okay?”
Tyler shifts into an empty seat at the front with Kellan Albright and BrandonBowers.
The teacher glances at the tablet on her desk. “I understand we have a new student. Would you like to introduceyourself?"
Necks crane, expressions conveying the mild curiosity that’s appropriate when you’re bored andrich.
Tyler strolls to the front of theclass.
I look over at Carly. She doesn’t look pissed, she looks… wary. Like she’s anticipating something she knows she needs towitness.
"I'm Tyler Adams. I moved here from Philly lastnight.”
Murmurs go through theroom.
I expect him to say he’s staying with me, living with us, but hedoesn’t.
“The bike in the parking lot. It’s yours?” This is from one of the minions, and I wonder if she had permission from Carly to open hermouth.
“I built itmyself.”
The buzz in the classroom isinstantaneous.
“Will you take me on it?” Another minion blurts, and alarm has my bodytightening.
“Don’t be a slut,” Carlysnaps.
I’ve seen how the social dynamics play out at thisschool.
But watching it unfold with Tyler at the center makes me squirm in myseat.
He’s not mine, but I hate that he’s on display for thesepeople.
“I also play guitar." Tyler’s voice cuts into mythoughts.
A snort comes from the front row. Brandon Bowers is a senior and popular. “A lot of people playguitar.”
“Not likeme.”
Nervous laughter filters through theroom.
“Play us something,” Brandonchallenges.
“Brandon…” But our teacher trails off as Brandon goes to the back of the class, grabs his guitar, and unzips it from thecase.
Our teachers are open-minded, which is why she doesn’t protest when Brandon holds out the guitar toTyler.
