“He said I had you in a bad mood since I was staying with you.”

“I was, and I did mention you,” Charlie admitted. “But I would have cancelled it whether you were staying in my house or not. I have a feeling I couldn’t have stopped him, so cancelling was the best option.”

Violet pursed her lips. “Then it kind of makes sense why he blamed me.”

“Not really. It’s still his fault for inviting strippers to the party. Just because I was already in a bad mood doesn’t mean that wouldn’t have made me lose it either. I fucking hate when people don’t listen.”

“And if it was me who was the problem, wouldn’t you be looking for a way to get out of the house?”

“You’re not wrong.”

“Anyways, he was here because Lewis sent him because he was worried we would fight.”

“I told Lewis we would be fine.”

“I guess he didn’t believe you.”

“So, Elijah was who he sent?”

“I’m not saying it was a good idea, but I’m sure Elijah jumped at the opportunity the moment he heard I would be here. He confronted me for you cancelling the party. I told him he was wrong, and he went on to call me a crazy bitch who needed to lose a few pounds.”

“He what?” Charlie asked. “Please tell me you didn’t take the high road.”

“Oh, I took a low one.”

“How low?”

Violet winced. “I threw it right back. He insulted how I look so I gave him a taste of his own medicine.” She looked away from him. “I told him his ears were the size of his face, his dick was small, and he needed a map to find the clitoris.”

Charlie was shocked for only one moment, before he burst into laughter. He couldn’t help it, he’d never heard Violet talk like that, but he knew she wouldn’t lie. And judging by how embarrassed Elijah was, she’d done exactly what she said.

“That’s perfect. He deserved it.”

“Yeah, maybe. But I feel bad for bringing his body into it. I was so mad at what he said. None of those things truly matter to me when it comes to dating, but I’m not one to take insults lying down.”

“Don’t feel bad. You’ve always been like this. If someone hurts you then you pay it back. You don’t take shit, Moore.”

“I’m surprised you’re not offended that I insulted his looks.”

“No, if I made a comment like that, I would have had you insulting me in the same way coming. First rule of having an enemy, you don’t dish out what you can’t take.”

“At least someone gets it. This is why you’re my favorite person to argue with. And besides, there’s nothing much I could say about you anyways. I have seen you naked, remember?”

“I thought we were erasing that from our memories.”

“Hey, I’m just saying, you’re working with better parts.”

If he thought seeing Violet angry did something to him, nothing compared to what she had said. Heat coursed through him, and if he didn’t have Lauren, and if she was anyone else, he’d ask her to dinner.

But he couldn’t. He did have Lauren, and Violet wouldn’t want him anyways.

“Um, sorry.” Violet’s face was pink. “We won’t talk about it. I’m glad you didn’t take his side.”

“No, fuck Elijah.”

“That’s how I got in this situation.”

“You can do better.”
