Charlie groaned in frustration, and of course, that’s when there were loud knocks at the door.

“I have to go, Micah. They’re here.”

Charlie took a moment to try and breath before he opened the door. He wanted to be calm and level for this conversation.

Unfortunately, when he opened the door, he was not calm.

“You!” Liv said, her face contorted in a way Charlie had never seen before. Lewis trailed behind her, biting his lip nervously. “Where is she?”

“Seriously?” He said, his voice sharp. “You’re going to show up at my place without even calling first?”

“Yeah, I am when it’s Violet I’m worried about! Where is she?”

“Okay, guys," Lewis said. “I know we need to talk-“

“She was supposed to come stay with us after the wedding,” Liv continued. “But no one has heard from her!”

“So now you’re blaming me?” Charlie replied. “You didn’t even ask about her yesterday.”

“Because I can’t! You get weird whenever she’s brought up and I didn’t want to deal with that shit on my first day back!”

“She’s fine,” Charlie said, struggling to keep his composure.

“Oh yeah? I don’t believe you. Her apartment is gone. I haven’t heard from her since I got back and she’s not at my place which is where she was supposed to be! Don’t you even attempt to placate me. Where the fuck is my best friend?”

“Liv," Lewis said, his voice firm. “I know you’re upset, but we need to calm down.”

“I can do what I want where Violet’s concerned. If she’s going through something, I’m going to be there for her!”

“Then where were you the last twenty-four hours?” Charlie snapped.

“Unpacking! And I don’t even owe you an explanation!”

“You do if you’re in my house! I know you’re worried about Violet, but you came in here yelling at me rather than simply asking where she was.”

“Fine. Where is Violet?”

“At work,” Charlie said.

“Yeah, right. It’s after five. She doesn’t work that late.”

“She does when she has a parent meeting.”

“How would you know if she had a parent meeting?” Liv asked, shaking her head.

Charlie heard a slamming door outside, and a car locking.

Violet’s car.

She was home, and judging by the sound of her footsteps, she was not happy.

“Mother fucker!” Violet cursed as she came in. “I fucking hate parents and I fucking hate traffic in this god damn town! Charlie, you better have some wine because I’m about to-“

Violet walked into the living room and froze when she saw Liv and Lewis. Her anger faded from her face, and Charlie could see the hurt simmering underneath.

“Is there a game night I wasn’t made aware of?” Violet said, weakly.

“Violet!” Liv said, hugging her friend. “You’re okay!”
