Fuck, she’d been over to his place. She’d changed there. My hands balled into fists at my side before I stretched them wide.

“He said he might go to the hospital.” That’s what she’d been doing on her phone. She’d been texting my brother when I didn’t even have her number.

“The hospital? What for?”

“Get checked out. He fell pretty hard.”

“Bullshit. I was there. He’s fine.” I leaned in and grabbed her, bringing her to me. I wanted to kiss her pout and make her remember me. My mouth hovered over hers, but she protested. Her hands pushed on my chest. “You smell like smoke and whiskey.”

“It never bothered you before,” I said before I hauled off and kissed her.

Maddie Mae responded, her tongue melting into my mouth. Her body molded against mine. My hands dropped lower to her backside. She backed away.

“I’m not making the same mistake with you.”

“What do you mean? Are you talking about how you slept with my brother?” I felt my nostrils flare. Heat ran up my neck.

“Yeah. That was a mistake and you’d be too, while I’m still giving him a chance.”

“You’re giving him a chance? What about me?” I sounded as angry as I felt. I wanted to tone it down, but fuck, I didn’t water myself down for no one. Maddie may not remember, but that was something she said she loved about me.

But with the constipated look on her face, she seemed conflicted. I took the opportunity to kiss her again. This time I pushed her against the front door. Suddenly, all I could think about was shoving Sky against the door to my throne room. Maddie fought, so I backed off.

“Okay, I’ll give you a chance. How about tomorrow?” Maddie tried. “We’ll go out.”

I cornered her against the door, staring at her shapely lips, wishing they didn’t remind me of her daughter. “You’re just saying that, so I don’t break in that door and take you inside. Finally take what I always wanted.”

“And what’s that?”

“Your pussy.”

“Beau,” she breathed. “Stop that dirty talk. If we’re going to do this, let’s do this right.”

“I don’t do things right, Maddie. I did that for years and it got me incarcerated. Now I take what I want, and I want you. The things I want to do to you, and your pussy, you couldn’t imagine.”

Maddie was red in the face as she tried to ignore my desire. “You can break me in and have some coffee.”

I took her invitation. I had to break the long window on the side of the door to get in the house. Like an idiot, I showed off and cut up my hand. Really it was nothing. Inside, I realized I’d never seen the interior before. I’d not been welcomed by her family because I was known as trouble. Our relationship had been practically secret. Maddie and I usually met at the park, at our spot. She’d smoke weed down there way before we hooked up. Back then, she was wilder than I was all except for her no sex before marriage rule.

Sitting in her kitchen now was bizarre. I felt like I’d gone back in time. For a fleeting moment, I imagined I’d get a do over. The one I always prayed for when I was locked away. Maddie wrapped my hand in a towel. Then she brewed coffee when I wanted nothing, but whiskey and I was dying for a smoke. I felt my pockets realizing I’d left them behind. When she sat a cup of coffee in front of me, I tugged her into my lap. The weight of her settled against my erection. It’d never gone away since my motorcycle ride with Sky.

Maddie’s ass was bigger but so was I. I’d bulked up from the slender teenager I’d been. This woman was in shape, but I could tell she’d had four kids. She was no twig. Her being pregnant… The very thought aroused me. Could she still have my baby? It didn’t matter if she couldn’t. I wanted to try to put one in her. I regretted the life we didn’t get to have.

“Beau,” she cooed as she felt my erection under her backside.

Fisting a handful of her hair, I brought her mouth to mine. I licked her bottom lip. Now that I was inside, I wouldn’t leave without claiming her. I really didn’t care if she wanted it or not. She’d submit to me like all women did.

A scream came from the living room. We both jumped and got up to check it out.

When I saw the dark hair, I realized Sky stood in the doorway, her head hanging. Her hands were over her eyes. “The blood,” she hollered, running past us. Sure enough, my blood had dripped on the floor on the way to the kitchen. We met Sky back at the table.

She took a few deep breaths while Maddie rubbed her back.

“Did someone break in?” Sky asked her mom, giving me a suspicious glare.

“No, honey. I locked myself out. Beau let me in. Broke the window. You know I talked about my old high school sweetheart. Sky, this is Beau Strick. The real one.”

“Old’s right,” Sky said under her breath.
