Maddie huffed at her. “Beau, this is my daughter Sky. Home from work early?”
“I got off early, mom. They’re cutting hours.” She put a lot of work into the word cutting. A dig at me. “I got a ride from a hot older guy I met, but he wasn’t who I thought he was. I had high hopes. But he turned out to be real sketch.”
“Oh, I hate to hear that honey. Are you okay?”
Sky lifted a shoulder. “Mom, it’s just you think a guy wants you, but they always want something they can’t have. Anyway, I had him drop me off at Leo’s so he wouldn’t know where I lived. Honestly, mom. I think he’s stalking me. I’m afraid he’ll rape me.”
Maddie got all worked up. “You should’ve taken the car, honey. Beau was just leaving.”
Confronted with both Sky and Maddie, I didn’t argue with her. She walked me to my motorcycle.
“Be ready tomorrow at noon?”
Maddie agreed.
I left on my Harley, confused. Fuck, Sky was a piece of work. She was taunting me. Like a crazy train that would ruin my life, I found myself wanting to sneak in her room and take her again. Show her how much she’d love to be raped by me. But on the other hand, my heart ached for a chance with Maddie. A second chance at the life I’d had ripped from me. I’d be damned if I let my brother have her.
Chapter 14
Kingpin
Saturday morning, I woke cold and alone. Memphis and Junebug were nowhere to be found. I was sure the girls were giving me a taste of how it’d be without them. None of that mattered. Today I’d remind Maddie of our time together. Before I picked her up, I drove to Shelby park, to our spot. I’d make sure there were no homeless there.
Fuck, right away, I spotted someone in a leather jacket sitting on the picnic table. I hopped off my Harley and lit a smoke. My head down, I crept over to tell maybe another biker to get lost. But it wasn’t another biker. When I raised my head, I saw Sky’s long black hair. She was wearing my jacket. I’d recognize the fringe and worn elbows anywhere. She puffed on a joint.
“What the hell are you doing?” The girl had taunted me last night and here she was today again. In my way.
“It’s legal in California.”
“I’m not talking about the pot. What are you doing here?”
“Um. Smoking some weed. Can’t do it at home. For fucks sake. I’m twenty three. I can do as I please.”
“No, I mean what are you doing here, on this very spot.”
“It’s my spot. My grandmother used to bring me here. She brought mom too.” Sky takes another hit. “I needed to get away from mom. Wait, did my mom bring you here? Is this your all’s spot?” She laughed.
I took the joint from her. “Bringing her here in an hour.”
Sky rolled her eyes. “Is that why she’s driving me crazy this morning? She has a date with you? Mom won’t want to come here.” Sky threw up her hands. “She’s much more fancy than this. She really loves all the dates she’s been on with Bubba, I mean that Beau Strick.”
“Your mom and I spent a lot of time here as teens. You wouldn’t understand.”
“You mean when you didn’t fuck her?”
“Maddie was saving herself for marriage. For me.”
“Does that turn you on?”
I took another hit and handed the weed back to her. “You going to get lost or not?”
“If you’d fucked my mom, I’d be your daughter.”
“Doesn’t work that way. I was in prison when your mom got knocked up. Don’t be sick.”
“Sick? You carved your fucking initial into my back, Kingpin. Leo showed me the fucking K. You do that to all the girls?”
Only the ones I want to warn my brothers not to fuck. I’d been marking Sky as my newest play thing. I’d planned to have a lot more fun with her. Like many women throughout my life, I planned to take all I wanted from her, use her up, and move on to the next. “It was a favor. Marking you, so none of the other members would mess with you.”
