Page 39 of Giving Up

“Ah, my bad. You control the North Shore now, Billie?” Rose lets go of me until she’s standing right next to me, towering over the bitch.

“Ozy…” Jake warns.

There’s no stopping her though. Rose is too stubborn. She can’t be told what to do or what to say. It automatically gets countered in her mind.

And thank God for that.

“Your boxing rep might scare the little cunts around here but don’t forget who you’re talking to,” Rose addresses her in a lower voice.

Out of all the girls who could have had my back at this party. Rose is the best I could have asked for. She’s too tall, too cool, too hot, and too much of a dude for Billie to say anything back.

Or so I thought.

“Please do remind me who I am talking to. Bianco’s little princess?”

Oh boy.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen Rose get truly angry at anyone but Nathan before. I’ve seen her raging against him but it’s cases she knows she’s not going to win and there is always reserve in it. And by that, I mean a lot of voice but not a lot of action. Understandably. I’ve seen her argue stupidly with her friends or with Jake. But I’ve never seen hertrulyangry.

I guess it was about time it happened.

She glances at Jake but when her gaze is back on Billie, it’s deadly.

The Whites have that thing in their eyes when they snap. It takes a lot, or it takes a specific trigger that not many people know about. Jake is the quickest to lose control. Rose is close behind. Nathan is a master at it. But when theydosnap. It’s not pretty.

It’sevil.

Rose grabs Billie and in one long strike, she’s got her pinned by the throat against the far wall.

“Fucking shit, Rose,” Xi sighs. “This is way too fucking hot.”

The thing with not being in Stoneview, is that this kind of behavior doesn’t bother anyone here.

“Shut up, dickhead,” Jake growls. “Ozy, stop.”

My mouth has dropped so low I have to pick it up off the floor. Xi is right. She’s manic and somehow makes it look hot.

Her voice is calm, fatal. “Billie, you can’t suck important people’s dick and suddenly think you’re invincible. That’s simply not how life works.”

Jake doesn’t even try to stop his twin. I don’t think there would be any point right now. I see Rose’s hand tightening when Billie tries to talk, and my friend shakes her head.

“Nah. Don’t try to talk to me again. Iwillfuck you up if I have to. I don’t because I like your sister. Simple as that. So next time you address yourself to me, remind your little brain that I’m no princess, alright? I’m a motherfuckingking. So bow the fuck down,” she finishes through gritted teeth.

She pushes Billie hard enough that she loses balance and falls to the floor.

Rose chuckles low as she looks down at her. “Yeah, just like that.”

She turns around and throws a death stare at her twin. “You’re an asshole, you know that?”

She doesn’t wait for an answer and walks straight to me, putting an arm around my shoulder. “Let’s get you home, Jamie. You’re better than this.”

I don’t know if she means better than fighting with Billie, arguing with Jake or being at this party altogether but I let her guide me away.

We find Emily and she walks us both outside.

“You can’t drive,” I say as we reach Sam’s car on the street.

“I know that,” she chuckles. That’s when I notice Chris’ car coming down the street.
