“Oh,” I say.

“You girls get home safe. Sadly, you’ve been revoked your rights to come to North Shore parties again. I told you I didn’t want to have to get you out of trouble.” She smiles at me as she says this. “I did enjoy that you finally told Jake what he needed to hear though. I’ll see you on Monday.”

The look on Chris’ face when I get in the car is particularly disappointed.

We drive in silence for a good five minutes before I finally talk. “Jake is back.”

“I know,” he sighs. “I don’t know if it’s a reason to let him take over your life all over again though.”

“No,” I admit, more determined than I’ve ever been. “It’s really not.”

And I mean it.

Jake isn’t getting the good side of me anymore.

It’s over.

He shouldn’t have come back because he triggered something in me.

I’m taking him down.

CHAPTER 7

Youngblood – 5 Seconds of Summer

Jake

Those eyes.

Those two golden treasures that used to burn so bright for me.

That deep green that used to swallow me whole.

That tanned skin, so soft, so warm, so safe.

Jamie is as beautiful as ever. Tonight, she was sexy as hell in those pants, with that red bra flashing bright through her tank top. She felt so good, better than she ever did. It was torture to try and make her come before I did. It was torture not to put my lips on hers, on her body, not to reconnect like I desperately wanted to.

I could see the necklace I gave her bouncing against her neck when I was fucking her, it was the hottest thing in the universe. I can’t believe she’s still wearing it. Her heart is so pure.

Jamie is my queen, and she needs protecting at all costs. Even the cost of losing her respect for me. Even the cost of losing her love.

I help Billie up as Xi follows after Jamie and Ozy.

“Are you for fucking real? Is that why you kissed me earlier? To make some Stoneview bitch jealous? We’re not even together, I never asked anything from you.”

I know that. And I do realize how shocked she was earlier when I kissed her, but I needed something to keep Jamie away.

“Billie—”

“And I swear I only didn’t knock out your sister because I know I’d get my ass kicked by Bianco if I did.”

Rose is a strong girl. Years of built-up anger is what can make her win fights against North Shore girls like Billie. But I have no doubt Billie could have hurt her good if she wanted to. Billie is a fighter, a boxer who spent the last two months eating, sleeping, and breathing boxing. She didn’t lose one fight. And at the moment, my twin is a miserable girl with borderline anorexia.

It takes a second for my brain to remember what triggered Ozy. When it does, my blood runs cold. When Billie mentioned him in front of her, I was ready to choke her against the wall myself.

“Yeah? And how do you know that Bianco would kick your ass, huh?”

She scoffs. “I don’t owe you any explanation. Not where I get my info and not how.”
