“How was your day?” he asks before giving me a kiss on my lips.

“Tiring,” I say while checking the temperature of the bottle. “Glad it’s over. Oh—you will need to get a burgundy tie for my mom’s wedding.”

“We’re going to that?” Seth asks, giving me a look as if he thinks I’ve completely lost my mind.

Maybe I have.

“Burgundy,” Alex says while wincing. “That means so many things.”

I shrug while placing the bottle into Maria’s mouth. “You think you’ve got it bad. I have to go dress shopping.”

“But you already have so many dresses,” says Seth while dumping the cooked vegetables into a bowl. He places the meat on the pan. Its sizzling fills the air and makes my stomach grumble.

“Not rose gold.”

Seth makes a face. “She wants you in a rose-gold dress? Who has rose gold?”

“No one,” Alex and I say in unison.

Alex beams at me and he sidles close, looking both happy and mischievous. “I actually wanted to talk to you about something.”

“And what would that be?” I ask while raising an eyebrow.

“Puma is going to have a shoot in about a week or two. It’s close to Aurora, in the mountains and woods. I was wondering if you would like to join me?”

I blink back at him. It’s been a while since I’ve gone on a trip anywhere. I think the last time was when I went to Boulder with Lucas.

“How close?” I ask.

Alex shrugs. “I think it’s about a thirty-minute drive away. Max forty-five.”

“Is this the trip you were telling me about?” Seth asks while flipping the meat.

“Yeah.” There’s something in Alex’s voice that makes me think he really wants Seth to come along as well. He sounds so shy.

“And when exactly is it?” Seth asks without looking at Alex, also sounding a bit shy. I wonder if they have been fighting.

“May first, but we would need to leave the night before. I don’t want to be rushing around the morning of.”

Seth nods. “I start my program April 30th, but if you’re fine leaving in the evening, I can come along too. That’s if…you still want me to come.”

I watch as Alex rests a hand on Seth’s shoulder. “Of course I do.”

Aw. They’re too cute.

“So what do you say, Rachel?” Alex asks, this time sounding much happier and looking excited. “You want to join me and Seth in the mountains? In a romantic, all-paid-for cottage?”

I purse my lips and clutch Maria close to me. “I don’t know about leaving Maria alone for that long. Would it be for the whole weekend?”

“Yep,” Alex says with a nod.

I grimace. That doesn’t make me feel any better. “Charlie and Lauren’s graduation is the fourth. I may not be as well rested—”

“You will be plenty well rested,” Alex says while waggling his eyebrows. “I’ll make sure if it.”

“Make sure of what?” Lucas asks while striding into the kitchen.

I hold back my laughter as both Seth and Alex jump. Lucas can be quite sneaky when he wants to be.
