“No way, little one. This one is on me.”

“I don’t understand…”

“This is my date, my treat.”

I stiffened. “You don’t have to take care of us.” I knew my voice was harsh, but I’d been down this road before. I wasn’t going to let someone guilt us into something we didn’t need.

We were fine.

“We are fine,” I said aloud, shocked that I’d let the comment slip.

To my surprise, Jamie tucked me close, his arms slipping around my waist, oblivious or ignorant to the way I stiffened.

“I never said you weren’t. You are doing a great job for Jackson. But let me do this for you. I want to enjoy my day with you, and I won’t be able to, knowing that these scavengers are left to their own devices in your place.”

I waffled, biting down on my lip.

“Let me, little one,” he crooned, ducking his head to brush his nose across the top of my head. I heard him inhale, and something about that possessive, primal action sent heat straight between my legs. I leaned into him, savoring the strength of his fingers as he pressed me tightly against his body.

I could feel him there, every part of him hard against me. Flashes from that night in the bar burned through my mind. I moaned softly when Jamie’s hands slipped up my back to tangle in my hair.

The delicious pull of his hands there titled my head back. Jamie’s face was so close to mine that the moment I opened my eyes, I could see the need there. The heat and longing. It hit me like a wrecking ball, and I whimpered at the power I saw.

“Jesus, Margot, the way you look at me.” He ran his other hand lower over the pockets of my jeans so that he could heave me up against his crotch. My mouth fell open at the zing of pleasure that shot though my body.

He leaned in closer, his breath warm against my ear. “Will you have that look on your face the first time I fuck you? The first time I make you come?”

My bones melted as I sagged into him. “Jamie, I—”

“Hey sis, do we have any more of those BBQ chips?” Jackson rounded the corner and immediately rolled his eyes at the pair of us.

I attempted to gather my scattered wits, but Jamie didn’t release me. His hands may have relaxed, but he obviously had no interest in letting me go or even hiding his grip on me from my little brother.

Surprisingly, Jackson didn’t seem to care and instead was intent of riffling through the cabinets on the other side of the small kitchen.

“Um, I’m not sure I bought any last time.”

“Dang, that sucks.”

“How about pizza instead? I’ll buy if you let me steal your sister away for a few hours.”

Jackson brightened immediately, and my heartbeat doubled as he gave Jamie a wide smile. “Pizza? Hell yeah.”

“Language, Jax,” I scolded softly.

“PDA, Margot,” he crooned back, waving a hand at us as he slipped back out of the kitchen.

Jamie hummed, his body relaxed against mine, big hands still stroking up and down my back. “You feel good here, against me.”

I chuckled. “Not much phases you, does it?”

“Not really. I’ve seen plenty.”

I heard the cheers coming from my living room. “Have you seen a flock of starving teenagers before?”

“I have.” Jamie switched his hold so he could tilt my face back up to his. “Which is why the pizza will be here any moment.”

“What? How? You didn’t even call anyone.”
