What Izzie didn’t expect was the place to be empty.

There was one table prepared with a setting for three, light from the candles on the center of the table flickered amongst the glassware and highlighted the flowers on the table.

“May I see you to your table?” A young gentleman in a suit appeared. “This way please.”

“I think there’s been a mistake,” Izzie said, not moving forward.

“Are you not Izzie?” the man questioned.

“I—I am,” she sputtered at the mention of her name. “But how, who?”

“An admirer set this up, paid in full, help yourself to whatever you want on the menu. The place is yours.” He motioned in the direction they needed to go. “I’m Gerard and I’ll be your server.”

Seated at the table in silence, they looked at everything around them. It was a warm, regal dining space. They’d never been inside the elusive restaurant before; it was all Izzie thought it’d be and more.

Chandeliers hung from high, and trees towering over the tables were adorned with twinkling lights giving it a magical atmosphere.

It was exquisite, a setting for royalty. The thought tugged at her heart. She brushed it off for she wanted to enjoy herself for a short while before she had to join the rest of the world again.

The lavish menu harkened that of fine dining to the likes she’d never seen before, she wasn’t sure what half of the items were. She took note of the classic cocktails and robust wines but refrained from any alcohol.

Izzie ordered something she thought was chicken and would see what she got when it arrived.

“This is lovely.” She sighed as she ran her fingers over the thick cloth napkin.

She dared let herself relax, and take in the elegant setting.

The food came, and sure enough, she was right, she got chicken. It was sinfully delightful and melted in her mouth.

The three friends spoke very little, all lost in their thought she supposed, or perhaps just enjoying their surroundings.

When they finished their meals, Dane stood up and stretched. “Well, Babs this is where you and I depart.”

Izzie was confused.

Babs scrunched up her face. “But we didn’t get dessert.”

“Dessert is not ours to have.” A crooked smile spread across Dane’s face.

Babs huffed. “But—”

There was a commotion in the foyer, and the three of them looked toward the noise.

“I’m sorry I’m late. I truly wanted to join you,” the prince came charging in. His eyes found Izzie, and a genuine smile spread across his face. “Darling, I’ve missed you so.”

“Holy shit,” Babs blurted out in her tactless way.

Izzie looked over at her friends to see Dane dragging Babs out of the building. It all happened so fast, she was confused and in disbelief.

The prince sat down next to Izzie and leaned in toward her. He cupped her cheek and gazed into her eyes. Just as beautiful as I remember.”

Words escaped her, “I—I thought…” she trailed off, and then became angry in an instant. “What the hell, you disappear from my life, you don’t talk to me for months, and show up here… and what, try tobuymy forgiveness?” She stood, tossed her napkin to the floor, and turned to leave.

But a strong hand grabbed onto her upper arm. “You’ll go nowhere until you allow me the courtesy to explain myself.”

She gave it some consideration, and almost thought better of it, but gave in. “Fine.”

The server came in undeterred, cleared the table, and retreated.
