“Please, have a seat.” The prince motioned to her chair.

As she sat, she noticed there were only two chairs at the table and two new place settings. The server wasgood.

“I need to start by saying, I’m sorry. Things didn’t go as planned. Not at all, and for that I will never be able to make it up to you. I only hope you’ll give me a second chance.”

“A second chance for what? In your absence, I’ve realized, that nothing we could’ve hoped for would ever work. You’re you, and I’m me.” She motioned to herself. “You live there and I live here. So why did you come back? I was just getting back on with my life.”

“I came back because I promised myself I would. I owed it to me, and you.”

“That makes no sense, Mr. Jackson,” she said, a bit on the snippy side.

He reached up behind her head, grabbed a handful of hair, and gave her a good tug. “Never call me that again. I hated lying to you, it just brings up those feelings.”

The sensation on her scalp was painful, yet exciting. But she’d never let him know. She didn’t respond.

He let go, and his shoulders sagged. “I’m not going about this the correct way.”

The server came back out and placed a bottle of champagne on the table, along with chocolate-covered strawberries. Her favorite. She was going to kill Dane the next time she saw him, heknew.

The server bowed and smiled. “Will that be all, sir?”

“Yes, of course.” The prince stood, shook his hand, and slipped him some cash.

“Very well, the place is yours, lock up when you leave.” The man bowed again and left.

Izzie sat in awe. “No one else is here?”

“No.” The prince said, quietly.

“So, you what, bought out the whole place?”

“Something like that.” The prince smiled as he watched her. “You’re so beautiful, and I’m not sure you know.” He reached over and ran the back of his knuckles along her cheek. “Has anyone ever told you that?”

“I think so?”

The prince chuckled. “You think? After I’m done telling you and showing you how beautiful you are, you’ll never forget I’ve said it.”

Izzie swallowed; his words were stern causing a shiver to run down her spine.

“Eat.” He pointed to the strawberries.

Not what she expected, she thought he’d feed them to her after dipping them in the champagne. At least that’s what they did in all the romance books she read.

She turned her attention to her dessert, and the prince sat next to her, watching.

“Do you want any?”

He shook his head.

She felt awkward, but when he looked at her the way he was, in all seriousness, she kept eating.

“That’s enough. I can’t wait anymore.” The prince gripped her wrist that was reaching for another berry.

“Oh,” she gasped, in surprise.

He pulled her up and cupped her face. “I’ve waited long enough; my patience has run out.” He licked her lips and groaned.

Her mouth popped open in response, and she felt his breath on her tongue. “Kiss me.”
