RAVEN
The afternoon is far from over, but the colors have already shifted. The sky is pale blue mixed with flamingo pink and light purple, the shore empty, and the seagulls shrieking in the distance.
I run a hand over my face, getting reacquainted with reality. The sensation of exhaustion that has clung to me before is now gone.
His arm is no longer around me, and for a second, I fear he’s left already.
Why? I don’t know.
Luckily, he’s still here, sleeping on his back. We’re both clothed. I have my dress on. He has his pants, shirt, and belt on.
His shirt is open, and wrinkled now.
My dress…
My dress fares well, considering that I’ve slept in it. I stretch my legs and relax, enjoying these few moments of respite.
Soon I drift off to sleep again, and the next time I peel my eyes, the light is tinged with gold.
It must be four or five in the afternoon, and I’m in no rush to go anywhere.
I wish this day would never end.
He shifts his position when his phone hums with a message.
He stretches his hand out, snatches his cell from the nightstand, and checks the screen before placing it back, sighing.
That’s how I know this is about to end.
“Raven?” he murmurs.
“Yes…”
“We have to go back…” he says, half-asleep, shattering my hopes that this could go on.
“Who was that?”
“Francisco. We’re going out tonight…” he says. “Later…” he adds. “But it’s better if we head back to the hotel now.”
“Do we have to arrive separately again?”
“No. We went out shopping… If anyone asks. That would be sufficient. Kai is not at the hotel. And knowing Francisco, he’d probably join us if he had the chance.”
The hint of humor puts a smile on my face.
“You mean here.”
He laughs.
“I mean everywhere. He’s rested and impatient. And yes, he’d love to be in bed with us.”
“Did he say that?”
“He doesn’t need to. Besides, he doesn’t know you’re here with me.”
I shift my position again to face him.
His eyes are closed, but he makes an effort and opens them to glance at me.
