Page 22 of When We Feel

“Listen… You don’t have to tell me everything.”

“Exactly. It says so in the contract.”

He smiles again, more amused this time.

“Yes. It does. It’s stipulated that way to make you feel at ease.”

“Uh-huh… Smart… So you put it in there, hoping that I would tell you everything.”

“I wasn’t hoping anything. It’s a matter of principle. You can have secrets. They are there to offer you some protection. But you don’t need to pull a stunt on me like the one you pulled last night.”

I muse.

“What if none of it was true?”

He smiles incredulously.

“What are you talking about? Are you going to deny it now?”

“No, no. Listen… I’m just saying. I didn’t pull a stunt on you. That wasn’t my intention.”

He arches a brow at me.

“Okay. Maybe it wasn’t one of my best moments, but it felt good,” I admit.

He gives me a clipped chuckle.

“Right… Sure. Well, I expected a little more from you.”

His words hit me hard.

We share a stare, and I no longer feel like acting like a brat.

He kind of ruined it for me by pulling the fun out of it.

“What if I wasn’t with anyone else?” I murmur.

What is wrong with me?

He just told me I could have secrets, and here I am, talking about it again. He’s no better with his mixed messages and back and forth, as if he purposely leads me in five different directions.

What he thinks is so important that I just couldn’t keep my mouth shut.

“You mean fucking?” he tosses at me.

I nod.

He slowly shakes his head, a faint smile curving his lips.

“You were with a man. And we both know who that man was.”

My eyes tear up from his stare.

Still, I hold his gaze, poker-faced.

I won’t admit it this time.

“Your nipples puckered when we talked about you having sex with someone else,” he says. “And your cheeks were flushed.”
