When the knock comes, I force myself to count to five before I open it. Even though my hand has been on the handle the entire time. This is it. Go time.

The click of the door unlocking is deafening, the tiny squeak of the knob jarring, but none of that compares to theboom-boom-boomof my heartbeat thumping through my body.

I open the door on a fast swing, my eyes instantly locking on Lexi. She’s looking down at a something, but when she hears the door, her gaze comes up, a smile on her lips. And then it instantly falls.

“What the…Grant?”

“Hey Lexi.”

Her eyes dart all over my face before going back down to the piece of paper in her hand. I watch as confusion, annoyance and something that I can’t name but makes her cheeks turn a gorgeous red, crosses her face. I feel my lips spread in a wider smile. Fucking adorable.

“That little sneak,” she curses, slapping down her free hand against her leg. Shaking her head, she looks back to me. “She’s so going to get it.”

“Are you talking to me?”

“I think you know I’m talking about your accomplice, Captain Helms. That hooligan was acting so strange. And now I know why.”

“I have no idea what you’re talking about.” I’m wholly unconvincing, trying to act dumb as I grin at her.

Rolling her eyes, Lexi doesn’t wait for me to invite her in. Pressing close to me, so her chest lightly grazes mine, sending ripples of awareness throughout my body, she saunters into my apartment. The two boxes of donuts – that I can’t eat – are balanced in one hand as she takes a look around.

“This is some place you have here.”

“Thanks,” I say with some hesitation in my voice. “I think.”

“It’s swanky for sure. Very nice. But it’s missing…” she waves her free hand around, searching for a word. I’m almost afraid of what she’s going to come up with. “Color.”

I release a huff of air. I can’t disagree with her. When I moved back to Toronto a couple months ago, my focus hadn’t been to make this apartment a home. I just needed a place to sleep and eat a couple of meals. I wasn’t bothered by the white walls and grey furniture accents that came with the apartment. It was simple and straightforward. But looking around the place now through Lexi’s eyes, I could see what she meant. It wasn’t just lacking color, it was lacking life.

Until her.

Until I looked at a white wall through her eyes and saw limitless possibilities.

“You’re right.”

“Well yeah,” she agrees, finally turning back to me and letting me gaze into her brilliant hazel eyes. “I’m all-wise and all-knowing.”

It’s in that moment that I know there’s no going back. This woman has completely captivated me. Placing the box of donuts down in the kitchen, she spins on the ball of one foot, her smile locked on me.

“That’s a lot of donuts for just one guy. You expecting company later?”

“No.”

“You’re going to eat all those donuts by yourself? A man after my own heart.”

God, I hoped those words would be true soon. What I was about to tell her would either endear her to me or horrify her. “I actually just ordered the donuts to get you here. I wanted to see you again. I’m not actually going to eat the donuts.”

Her head jerks back in confusion. “You’re not actually going…” her words trail off like she’s trying to find a deeper meaning to what I just said. When her lush lips push out into a pout, I’m done for. I’ve been tested and pushed to my limits with Lexi. She’s here. She’s comfortable enough with me and being in my apartment to make herself at home. So I take the risk.

My hand reaches out to wrap around her forearm, pulling her to me. Her eyes flick to me, watching me as I pull her in. A gasp leaves her lips as she collides into me. Tipping her chin up, I slowly lower my head. Giving her the opportunity to stop me. But she doesn’t. At the first touch of our lips, the room around me fades away. The connection is gentle at first, like we’ve both been shocked and need a moment to process. Her taste is sweet and addictive, pulling me in.

It’s not enough. Her body begins to squirm against mine as our kisses grow hotter. With one hand tangled in her hair, I let the other explore down the side of her neck, swallowing her tiny hums of pleasure as I tease her. When I reach the curve of her breast, I pause, smiling into our kiss. I feel her body shutter as I trace the curve, not feeling any barrier but her shirt. The idea that she isn’t wearing a bra, that we are only separated by a thin piece of cloth has my cock straining against my jeans.

My thumb swipes over her hard nipple.

“Grant,” she gasps, her body rubbing harder against mine. Lexi lefts a leg, wrapping it around my waist but she can’t seem to hold on. Our heights are too different. Needing more of her, needing her closer to me, I push away. Before she’s able to protest, I lift her up in my arms. Her legs wrap around me. We both groan as she settles right over my cock.

I capture her mouth again, eating at her lips. Her hands are in my hair, demanding more and more from me. I can’t stand this any longer. I need full access to her. Not breaking our connection, I walk blindly to the sofa.
