“What security issue?”
“Someone started attacking the parks that haven't been set-up and have no security yet.”
“What can they do there?” Toni asked.
“They are cutting up or burning up trees, tearing up grasslands, and dumping unknown chemicals in and near the water. There are also animals that are being found killed and mutilated.”
“What do you plan to do about that?”
“Small groups of dragons from the ship are camping out at each of those locations. If they find them while they are destroying things, they will either take them into custody or destroy them.” Ranger explained.
“Why would they even do something like that? Theft is easier to understand because maybe they need the money to support themselves. That kind of destructive behavior seems crazy.”
“I'm not sure why they would do it because I am not sure who is doing it. If it's the mob, they are probably trying to get our attention. Maybe they hope we'll make a deal. I don't really understand the thought process of criminal humans.”
“The average human does not understand those thought processes either.” Amy advised.
“Since I am not sure if they are human or rogue dragons. I must use soldiers who I know will be able to defend themselves.”
“That makes me wonder if you have all these soldiers available why are you not just using them to bring order?” Toni wondered.
“Our soldiers are only available when the ship is in orbit. Right now, they are loading up the latest group that will be going to Draconis or one of the other colonies. As soon as the ship is loaded the soldiers will have to leave with it. Eventually, we will be building an army, but it will have a limited amount of dragons and few of those will be fire breathing.”
“I didn't know you had any fire breathing dragons.” Amy observed with excitement.
Ranger shot her a look. Maybe he should be more careful about what he says around her, but she will learn about dragons since she is learning to be a healer. His look did make her shut up quickly as she realized that he had not intended her to know about these things yet. Now that she did know it was too late to worry about it.
“I believe I am getting tired now.” Toni yawned.
“You need your sleep until your change is complete.” Amy counseled. “The only other concern will be to feed your change as much as you can. Go rest and do not worry about any schedules just sleep until you wake up on your own. Doctor's orders.”
Toni nodded and she went back to the bedroom where he was sure that she would probably sleep since she had looked very tired as soon as she had eaten. “How do you think she's doing?” Ranger asked.
“From all the information I have, she is going through a normal change for a queen.”
“What does that mean?”
“According to the information that I have available to me the higher the position of the mate, the harder the change. I believe this is because extra powers are picked up that will help them eventually with the position they will be taking. Those who mate dragons that have no position such as those who are a regular soldiers or farmers, will have the easiest change. Those who mate kings or the emperor, have the hardest changes of all.”
“But what if they mate and later their mate gets a higher position?”
“Why, are you planning to become an emperor?” Amy laughed.
“No, I'm just trying to figure out how this thing works.”
“The theory is that a change can adjust to give them the skills they need for a higher position just as it does with those that are born dragons.”
“Okay, that makes sense because everyone grows and develops over time.” Ranger said.
“While that's true. I think there's something more in the venom that continues to make adjustments. How long that would last, I don't know but it clearly lasts for a while.”
“What kind of doctor were you?”
“I went through the usual training to be a doctor but then I went on to specialize in genetics.” Amy explained.
“Was that why they wanted you?” Ranger asked.
“I think it may have been that although they did not share that with me. They did tell me I would be training to become a fully qualified healer in the medicine of your planet before I did anything else.”
