"Even if he treated you like his possession?" Seth seemed genuinely confused at that.

"He didn't," I said. "He treated me like someone worth caring about. Someone worthy of being loved." And fucked. He hadn't hidden that from me. I wished we hadn't waited. I hoped with everything inside me he really was still alive, and that the hemitheos would keep him that way.

Honestly though, they were crazy if they did. If Dex swore up and down he wouldn't try to take back the Residence, he wouldn't, but having him alive might cause unrest. His very presence and the absence of the Alpha had caused unrest already. Hades only knew what this might do.

Of course, I kept those thoughts to myself. Airing them wouldn't end well for anyone, especially Dex.

Gwendolyn snorted.

I gave her a dirty look. Just because she'd screwed over a man who didn’t seem to love her, didn't mean love wasn't a thing. It was a crazy thing. Sometimes it was a very bad idea, but it was something I would hold on hard to. Dex, Bain, and Knox. Devlin.

Sometimes they were infuriating. Sometimes I was. Okay, a lot of the time, but my feelings for all them were real, and growing by the day. These hours, days apart only made those feelings stronger. More desperate. My heart and body ached for their touches, their smiles, the feel of their mouths on mine. I needed them all to be alive and stay alive, whatever that took.

"You think love is a weakness?" Seth asked. He addressed the question to Gwendolyn.

"If you let it be," she replied, her chin raised. "Look at Devlin. His love for me blinded him to what was going on around him."

"He wasn't that blind," I said. "He just hoped you wouldn't screw him over while cheating on him."

Gwendolyn shrugged. "It's not cheating when you're with your true mate." She made such doe eyes at Seth, I almost laughed out loud.

If he fell for that, then he was dumber than he looked. He didn'tseemdumb, but he was blinded by love, lust, a thirst for power—something, if he trusted Gwendolyn.

"Right. Well, it's getting late," Seth said. "It's time for bed." He looked at me. Then at Gwendolyn.

She offered him her hand.

I sure as Hades wasn't going to make him any offers.

Instead, I yawned. A real one.

"I could use some sleep," I said.

"Of course." Seth took Gwendolyn's hand and they rose. "I'll have a guard show you to your room."

"How about a map?" I asked hopefully.

Seth looked confused, but nodded. "Certainly. I'll have a servant bring you one.

Score.

I smiled. "Great. I look forward to it." No, really, I did. I couldn't wait to walk around without getting lost. Not to mention all the other things I might get up to now. Like find the kitchen and steal a cupcake or two.

And maybe find the guys and see if they really were okay. I had a feeling the news the servant gave Seth was about them, and it wasn't good.

I never learnt to juggle, but I had a feeling I'd have to figure it out, and keep a bunch of balls in the air for a while. I'd feel better if those balls weren't attached to men I cared about.

Seth waved a guard over. “Show her to her room.” He nodded to me before he and Gwendolyn walked from the room. She gave me a triumphant look over her shoulder.

Yeah, like I envy you at all, I thought sarcastically. I rolled my eyes then turned to the guard.

She had a stiffer back and stonier expression than Bain. Yeah, I didn't think that was possible either, but here we were.

I smiled at her, if only because one of us had to be friendly. "Thanks. What’s your name?"

"Czara," she replied reluctantly.

I frowned. "Are you related to Czari?" Now I thought about it, they looked alike.
