I patted her shoulder. "Look them up in a couple of years, kiddo," I said.

She grimaced and sighed through her nose. "It's not fair."

"Aisha, take your sister and get some firewood," Latika ordered, obviously to get the girls away from the three godlike shifters.

Any other teenager would have argued, but Aisha nodded and headed for the trees immediately.

"I'll help you," Yard offered.

"We need help with the tents, Yardley," Zeph said, his tone a sneer, as though ridiculing Yard for forgetting.

"I know," Yard replied lightly. "But I'm sure you can manage your tent on your own." He looked directly at Zeph's groin.

Zeph's face turned red.

Yard looked toward me and grinned before he turned to follow the girls.

"They look like all kinds of trouble," I said to Knox.

He stepped closer and touched the tips of his fingers to the back of my hand. It was a small gesture, but so full of warmth and heat. I was grateful for not being a guy, because they might see my own tent in response. My lady boner was so much easier to hide.

"They do, but at least they got you back to me safely," he said softly. He brushed his lips over mine, just lightly.

"That they did." I laced my hands in his and told him about the bikes and their mostly deceased riders. He seemed concerned about the ripple of air, and also didn't understand theStargatereference. I really needed to have Dex sort decent internet when this was over. These guys were missing out on way too many good things.

Although, I would regret it if they preferredReal Housewivesof anywhere. I doubted they would though. It didn't seem to be their thing at all. Calista and Zophia, on the other hand, might enjoy it.

"I assume the perimeter isn't where it's supposed to be?" I asked.

"Actually it is," Knox said. "But that's something we can worry about later."

I blinked at him. "You're confusing me."

He kissed me again, deeper this time. "How about we see if they brought enough tents for us all? Otherwise we'll need to stake out a spot under the branches."

I was not much of a camper, and I didn't really want to start now, but I preferred shelter to just leaves, if we could get it. The Dragonesque's bags weren't all that big, so I wasn't expecting much.

As it turned out, that was fortunate, because I would have been disappointed otherwise. Their tents turned out to be a piece of fabric tied to the trunks of the trees. Waterproof on one side, but not anything to write home about. If I was inclined to write home. Fuck that.

Kayley had one to herself. Zeph, with what seemed to be his usual scowl, shared one with Conor and Yard. Greg and Slade would share one tent. Latika and her daughters shared one, leaving the last for Bain, Knox and me.

"If they snore, you're welcome to squash in between Conor and me," Yard offered. "We're very good company." He gave me another wink.

I don't know who looked more furious: Kayley, Zeph, or Bain. Knox and Conor just looked amused.

As for me, I just smiled graciously. "Thank you. I'll bear that in mind. Hopefully neither of them do." I gave Bain a look to let him know he'd been warned. A smile tugged at the corners of my mouth, because I wasn't really that bothered by it. If he snored, at least I knew he was alive.

"You're a dickhead," Zeph told Yard.

Yard grinned and made a kissing sound at him. "You know you love me."

To my surprise, Zeph flipped him off. I guessed some things were universal.

That theory was disproved when Kayley said, "You two have spent too much time in the outside world. It's made you both dickheads."

Yard laughed.

Zeph's expression darkened, but he didn't say anything. He just reached into a bag to pull out some bread and fruit.
