Realizing I couldn’t climb down the ladder, I skimmed the outer edge of the pool. “Looks like the shallow end has a ramp.”

“Do you want to bring your chair?”

Judging the distance from here to there, it didn’t look too far. “Let’s see how I do walking.”

Offering his arm for support, I took it and leaned into him as we walked. Focusing on the ground instead of looking at the people who were staring around us, I felt like I was the center of everyone’s attention. Better yet, like the scar running from underneath my arm and down my ribcage was on display.

Gripping Logan’s arm tighter, I was ready to turn around and go back when Logan whispers, “You’re doing great. Don’t worry about anyone else,” he said, his lips at my ear. "It's just me and you."

Trying to remain calm, I nod and keep going until we finally make it to the ramp. Stopping for a breather, I placed my hand on the railing as Logan’s lips curl into a devilish smile.

A huff leaves my chest. “What?”

“Nothing,” he shrugs, but I know him better than that.

“I know that look. You’re up to something.”

Shaking his head with mischief, Logan looks around before rushing towards me. Scooping me into his arms, he picks me up and rushes into the water. “Oh my God,” I scream with excitement.

Spinning us around, we fall into the water with a splash. Pushing back to the surface, Logan laughs. Tilting my head back into the water to get it out of my face, I pop back up. “You had that planned all along, didn’t you?” I said, splashing water in his direction.

“Had to get you into the water someway, didn’t I?” He plays along.

“Mhm,” I chuckled, moving my arms around under the water. “I thought the water would be cooler than this.”

“Nah, the sun heats it up,” he replies, sending another splash of water my way.

“Cheap shot,” I chuckled, sending an even bigger wave his way,, but he ducks under the water before it can reach him.

Watching him disappear under the surface, I quickly turn to swim away, but he’s faster than I am and pops up in front of me. Catching me in his arms, he picks me up and spins us around before playfully taking us under.

Once we’re under the surface, his mouth covers mine, his hand firmly planted around my neck, pulling us together. His mouth is warm and soothing and my body relaxes into him before we pop back up for air.

Bursting out of the water, my cheeks heat with embarrassment as I let out a laugh. Looking back at Logan, I dip down until the water is just beneath my lips. Staring into his eyes, they bounce between mine as a wide smile crosses his face. It looks like he’s having the time of his life.

“What’s going on over there?”

“I’m just thinking.”

“About..?”

“Freshmen year.”

His brow jumps. “Freshman year? What made you think about that?”

“You got me thinking about your end of the year parties.”

He pressed his lips together with disappointment. “You mean the one you didn’t attend?”

His eyes searched mine, and I felt bad all over again. “I wanted to attend.I was excited about it aside from having to hang around the entire freshman class. But the day of the party, I overheard Tess say to her band of bitches that if I showed up at the party, she’d cause a scene and leave.”

“It would have been a much better party,” he chuckled, making me feel better.

Playfully I splashed him with water. I rolled my eyes. “But you were so excited about it, I didn’t want to be the one to ruin it.”

“You wouldn't have ruined anything. Did you know I spent the better part of that party watching the main gate hoping you’d change your mind?” His eyes bounced between mine. “Every time that gate opened, my heart raced with excitement, hoping it’d be you. But it never was,” he admitted. “It eventually got to where I was ready to come get you myself, but every time I got close to sneaking out, something needed my attention and I couldn’t get away.”

Lowering my eyes, I whispered. “I didn’t think you’d notice my absence.”
