Alexandra clung to Erin for a few seconds too long. She clung to the safety of Erin and everything that Erin was to her. Without her usual heels on, the top of her dark wig reached Erin’s chin. She felt the Princess’s face close against her breast, just for that moment and it was overwhelming.

They pulled apart and danced again to the music. Alexandra staying closer this time and avoiding eye contact with other women. The intensity building between them was not lost on either woman.

As they left the bar and went back out to the street where they could hear each other again, Alexandra enthused about the bar.

“What an incredible place. I’ve never been anywhere like that. All those women. All those women just like us. Do they normally just touch people like that? Is that a normal thing?”

“Pretty normal, yeah,” Erin sighed. “It is a bar on a Saturday night. People drinking and dancing. These things just happen really. It doesn’t make it okay, but it happens a lot. At least she backed away when I stepped in.”

Alexandra looked to her and took in Erin’s height and strong shoulders. Their eyes met.

“Thank you for saving me.”

“Anytime,” replied Erin, not realising how soon her words might be tested.

Erin and Alexandra headed out of Soho’s hustle trying to find a taxi that was available. It was a busy night and black cabs drove past but they were already occupied.

A lone drunk man approached them, his gait slightly wobbly, his voice slightly slurred.

“Lesbians,” he proclaimed. “Are you two lesbians?”

“Ignore him and keep walking.” Erin directed Alexandra as they kept moving.

“I love lesbians,” he continued as he turned and walked with them. “Especially ones that look like you two. I like her. The little dark one. What is your name?”

Erin was on edge and suddenly felt very exposed. Suddenly very aware she had no back up. The man was old enough to know better, old enough to behave like an adult, but it was amazing how often straight men behaved like this when they saw lesbians.

“How do lesbians have sex? Really though? It is a serious question… stop ignoring me.”

Alexandra started to look concerned as Erin increased their pace. He increased his pace to keep with them.

“Seriously though. Which one of you is the man? It’s you isn’t it? You, the tall one. I bet you wear the strap on. Does little darkie like it or does she want a real man?”

“Listen to me!!” he shouted as they neared a main road.

Suddenly he lurched and lunged towards Alexandra grabbing at her body. He caught her hair and her wig came off in his hands. He looked surprised and grabbed again for her. Erin responded swiftly and brutally. The heel of her hand smashed straight into his nose and he screamed as the impact hit him. Angered, he let go of Alexandra and turned on Erin swinging his fist towards her. She blocked his flailing arm and struck him swiftly with her elbow and then followed it with her knee sharply up into his groin. He crumpled to the ground immediately wailing in pain and bloodied all over his face. People started to come out of the nearest bar to see what was happening. A car pulled over. Erin grabbed Alexandra who was standing stupefied.

“Run.”

Alexandra didn’t move.

“RUN.” Erin grabbed her hand and pulled her. She knew there was no way they could be caught there. Anyone coming too close now would recognise Alexandra for sure without the wig on. They ran down the streets into the rabbit warren of Soho rounding corners as fast as Erin could drag her, then into a dark alleyway and a shop doorway. Adrenaline coursed through them both as Erin slammed the Princess into the doorway to hide for a second. To catch their breath; to make a plan.

And suddenly Alexandra was pushed against the wall and Erin was so close to her and her

breath was ragged. Erin’s eyes were on high alert and her heart was beating out of her chest. Alexandra took hold of Erin’s leather jacket and pulled Erin’s strong body in towards her.

Erin paused, shocked for a second as Alexandra looked up to her inches from her face.

“Kiss me,” she said breathily. Erin paused again looking at Alexandra’s beautiful face, the curiously dark eyes flooded with desire and her own ashy hair slicked back. Her collarbone prominent in the dark.

“Kiss me,” repeated Alexandra and Erin couldn’t fight her own lust any longer. She pushed Alexandra back against the wall and leant down and kissed her like nothing else mattered. Like they were the only two people in the world. Like nothing that had just happened had just happened. Like Alexandra wasn’t the future Queen of England. Her tongue pushed into Alexandra’s mouth and Alexandra hungrily responded. Alexandra kissed her back like Erin was water in a desert. And she was. In a way. Alexandra had spent her life in the desert.

Erin woke up suddenly and pulled away. Suddenly reminded of the her job and their situation.

“Hold on,” she said. “We need to get out of here. I need to get you out of here.” She slipped her phone out of her pocket and within seconds she had ordered an Uber.
