Finn chuckles, typing out a quick response to Chuck before opening the next message. “Oh, this one is great. It’s like they know you.”
“Artherion Travel Systems?” I squint, reading the email. “What’s it for?”
“Travel luggage. They must’ve found out that you never take enough shit, so they want to give us free bags and two hundred thousand dollars to do an advertising segment.”
“Hell, I can’t say no to that. I mean, I would’ve done it for the free luggage.”
He laughs. “What about … oh, this one is just for me.”
“What is it?”
“Underwear by Stotle James. It’s a luxury house known for their minimalist, high-fashion styling offering … fancy cotton and silk, it seems.”
“Hard no.”
He flinches. “What?”
“Hard no,” I say, shaking my head.
“And why not?” he asks smugly.
I sigh. “Because you’re supposed to be my fiancé. It’s hard enough to take you anywhere without women staring. If they see you in underwear, there’s a good chance you’ll get attacked by a mob, and I’m not a good fighter. I mean, I will defend what’s mine, but if this nose gets broken, I’m going to be pissed.”
My cheeks flush because I didn’t mean to say all of that. But it’s not a lie.
“I love this jealousy thing you have going on.” He smirks. “It’s super sexy.”
My leg slips across his as I curl toward him and open my mouth. “Candy, please.”
He feeds me two pieces.
“What’s next?” I ask, stretching my arm across him again.
“There’s one more, and it’s a car company.”
“Which one?”
“Soltom Motors.”
I exhale. “That’s a no.”
He laughs. “You haven’t even heard the terms.”
“Don’t care. My dad hated those cars, and he’d haunt me forever if he knew I was helping them sell their shit.” I pull back to see Finn’s face. “Dad hated few things in his life, but the top two were persimmons and Soltom Motors. I’m nothing if not loyal.”
Finn shrugs. “Can’t argue with that. It’s a no to a new car.” He settles against the pillows. “So that’s a yes to Siggy’s, Ruma, Landry Wines, and the luggage company. Right?”
I do a quick bit of mental math. That’s about 2.75 million, minus Chuck’s fee and Finn’s taxes. That leaves around 1.4 million, which gives me about 700,000 before I pay my taxes.
Holy crap.
“Sounds good to me.”
“I’ll call Chuck tomorrow and relay the message.”
He tosses his computer to the side and burrows down into the blankets, pulling me tighter against him. The bag of candy next to him crinkles with our movement, reminding me of the time we were in this very position and a bag of cookies got caught under us.
Oh, the mess that made.
