DAY TWO

“Damn it, Sev,” Dallas fussed, standing outside of her door, rubbing his hands together. “Open the door.”

Raising his fist, he knocked heavily, praying that she appeared on the other side of the door before he froze to death. A few more moments passed, and just as he was about to knock again, the door swung open.

Dallas swiftly realized he was not prepared for what was on the other side.

“Have you lost your damn mind?” Sevyn demanded, clad in just a tank top and underwear. “What are you doing here so early?”

Forcing himself to focus on her face and not the blood rushing to his lower extremity, Dallas cleared his throat. “You owe me a date day, remember?”

“Dallas, it’s seven in the morning!”

“And? As stubborn as you are, I need all the time that I can get to build my case.”

She tried to keep a straight face, but he could see the hint of a smile threatening to break through. “I don’t like you.”

“I think you do. At least a little bit.”

“Whatever. Come in if you’re coming. It’s cold.” She folded her arms, but not before he caught a glimpse of her taut nipples protruding through her shirt.

He stepped inside and Sevyn closed the door behind him, turning the lock. “You can do whatever you want to do for the next two hours, but I’m going back to sleep.”

“You taking two hours off my timetable, ma’am.”

“Well your timetable is just going to have to be adjusted, sir. Messing around with Kohl, I didn’t get to bed until almost two this morning.”

“What’d y’all do?” he questioned, removing his shoes.

Sevyn stretched widely, releasing a yawn. “The usual. Skated for a while, came back to the house and ate, talked shit, and drank.”

Not wanting to be intrusive and invite himself upstairs, yet still wanting her company, Dallas thought of a quick suggestion to keep her in his presence.

“Well if you insist on interrupting my plans, grab a blanket and come kick it in the living room with me. I will take the loveseat,” he offered, as she opened her mouth to protest. “And you can have the couch. You don’t even have to sit next to me.”

Sevyn pursed her lips, visibly thinking his offer over. “I planned to sleep. But fine, fine. I’ll be right back.”

“Cool.”

As she disappeared up the steps, he traipsed into the living room, plopping down on the loveseat and grabbing the remote. By the time Sevyn returned, this time wearing a pair of shorts, much to his relief, he’d found an interesting-looking movie on one of her streaming apps.

“What’s this?” she asked, yawning again while stretching out on the couch, wrapping herself up in her blanket.

“I don’t know but it’s romance and a holiday movie so I’m sure you’ll stay awake for it.”

“Don’t count on it,” Sevyn said, eyes already fluttering.

“We’ll see.”

“We surely will.”

Three movies later, not only was Sevyn wide awake and had offered Dallas a spot next to her, they were engaged in a heated argument over the plot of the last movie they’d watched.

Somehow, she’d even wiggled her way into saddling up next to him for the entirety of their last movie.

“I don’t understand how you can’t see that he’s the villain,” Dallas side-eyed her.

“Because he’s not. He’s a victim. I don’t understand how you can’t see that.”
