“Dad, I’m so sorry,” Morwenna said.

It sounded like she grunted and growled, her hand smacking against something.

“I’m trying to find a way out, but there’s none. Damn it, Bolt, wake the fuck up.” What sounded like flesh on flesh could be heard over the phone, and he figured she was trying to slap him awake, and because he wasn’t responding, it was starting to piss her off. She slapped him again.

“Look for a weapon. Tell me what we’re up against.”

“There’s at least six of them here, Dad. They’re ... oh, my God, it was horrible. Star was begging them for more drugs, and she told them she’d done everything they asked. Please tell me the kids are there. Please. I don’t think I could handle it if they’re dead in their rooms,” Morwenna asked.

Venom loved her even more. Even as she was terrified out of her skin, her thoughts were for those kids. Venom left his cell phone on the desk and immediately went outside to find the three kids with Storm at the bar. He breathed a sigh of relief. However, his sudden appearance alerted Storm and several other club brothers, and he had no choice but to pull back and get into the office.

“They’re here,” Venom said.

“Thank God, I don’t know how long I’ve got but I’m going to hang up. I hear movement. I’ve got to go.”

Morwenna disconnected the phone, and for the briefest of seconds, he, Gus, and Maverick just looked at one another. Neither of them made a sound. Then Gus grabbed something from Maverick’s desk and tossed it aside.

“Fuck!”

“We need to get to Star’s apartment,” Venom said. “In numbers, so there’s no chance of us being surprised.”

“I need a bike, and I need to get my wife here,” Gus said.

“I’ll send one of my guys to pick her up,” Maverick said. “You can come with us.”

“We need to do this fast. They’re going to move them. It is the Karamazov MO,” Gus said.

Venom was pissed off. His rage was building with every second. They didn’t have time to play games. He made his way out of the clubhouse, as Maverick rounded everyone who was able to make the journey to Star’s house.

So, Star was their weakest link. She also managed to lure Bolt out of the clubhouse. Venom didn’t even know how they found a fucking chance to leave the clubhouse without anyone knowing. It was bullshit.

The guys were out on their bikes, and it looked like Diesel and Lizard were headed in Willow’s direction. Venom took off toward Star’s apartment, recalling the time he and Morwenna went apartment hunting, and heard the couple fucking next door. They had no idea it was Bolt and Star. They just had fun, and he recalled Morwenna’s laughter, but also the fake, long, drawn-out moans she would make as they pretended to compete. He never expected Bolt to step out in the hallway, as that had been a giant shock to him.

Arriving at Star’s apartment building, Venom parked his bike, as did Gus, Maverick, and the rest of the guys. Heading inside the building, a couple of men took the stairs, others took the elevator, followed by several taking the back entrance. Venom took the main stairs, pulling out his gun, ready for attack the moment he got to Star’s floor.

He knew the moment he was on the floor, the Karamazov had already moved on.

The moment he stepped inside the room, he saw the Karamazov handiwork, but he also saw it was Star’s face, and no one else. He moved through the apartment, looking in each room, coming to a stop at Star’s bedroom. The bedsheets were a mess. Someone had been sleeping, or possibly even dragged. He shined his light from his cell phone and saw droplets of blood on the floor. They could have been from Morwenna or Bolt. There was a window broken, and glancing back to the door, he saw a broken chair and what appeared to be gunshots in the wall.

“They’re not here,” Venom said.

This was starting to piss him off, so he began to look at the floor, in the hope of seeing if Morwenna had a cell phone. There wasn’t one on the ground, or smashed up. He gritted his teeth. Just as he was about to throw his across the room, a text came in.

We’re pb yjqic

“What the fuck? I have no way of knowing what the fuck that means,” Venom said.

Gus came into the room, and he looked calm and collected. It was only when he looked into the man’s eyes that he saw the panic and fear. He grabbed Venom’s cell phone and looked at the wording with a frown, but then he clicked on the keyboard.

“We’re on the move.”

“What?”

“Look at your keyboard, they’re all close together, including the delete button. It’s the only thing that makes sense, which means they don’t have a clue she’s got her cell phone, and she is trying to keep it that way.” Gus looked around the room. “And she is fighting to stay alive. You see that chair, she must have propped it against the door to bide herself more time. I trained her well.”

“What about the blood?” Venom asked. “She could make them angry, and they might kill her quickly.”

Gus looked at the blood and shook his head. “My girl is a fighter, and she would not give them the satisfaction of hurting her, or Bolt. They’ve had their difficulties, but she’d do what she could to protect him.”
