“I was trained to spot a hunter. I spotted them, and when they started their attack, my wife nearly died. Willow is a resilient woman, but even she struggled. It was chaos.”

“She was pregnant,” Storm said.

“Karamazov don’t care. Once you are on their bad side, that’s it, you’re dead. I’ve seen them cut open a pregnant woman while she was still breathing, slaughter her child, and then kill her. Those are the kind of animals you’re dealing with. They’re men and women that show absolutely no mercy. They rape. They hunt. They kill. It’s worse than you can even imagine. They don’t care how much mess they make.”

“Hold up, if this is so bad,” Maverick said, “Why hasn’t anyone ever gone after them? Why hasn’t anyone stopped them?”

“Because Karamazov doesn’t randomly attack. Usually, it’s people no one cares about. Think about it, in this town, would many people mourn your loss? What about the Romano Mafia? They’ve caused a lot of trouble. Giving the cops and local government the runaround, making everyone look like fools, while they continue to exploit the law.”

“It’s random,” Venom said.

Gus nodded. “It’s random and without cause, but if the Karamazov have their sights on you, it’s pretty much a guarantee you’re as good as dead. It also means they have someone on the inside helping them.”

Venom looked toward Maverick.

“You’ve got to be fucking shitting me?” Maverick asked.

“I’m not. The Karamazov find a weakness. The drugs were the Romano weakness. What is yours?” Gus asked. “You have a leak from the inside, and until you figure that out, you’re fucked.”

“Who the fuck were you?” Maverick asked.

“If that is all, I’m going back home to protect my family.” With that, Gus held onto his laptop, not that he needed it.

He’d thrown them all a bombshell, and Venom left, as he would need someone to hold open the gate.

“Who do you think it could be?” Venom asked.

“Anyone. Anyone with a weakness. Anyone who is desperate. The Karamazov prey on the weak. Every family. Every organization is only as strong as its weakest link. Trust me on this, there is something in that.” Gus climbed into his car, and Venom stepped back. “And if I’m right, they’re already inside.”

Venom watched as Gus drove out of the clubhouse compound, and he locked up the gate, turning back to wonder who it could be, that would ultimately cause their demise.

Bolt sat down in the chair opposite his father, mother, and Venom. He didn’t like how happy they all looked, and it pissed him off.

“What is this about?” Bolt asked. “You know you’re pissing everyone off. This is not a good look for any of you.”

“In the last year, have you spoken or come in contact with anyone who asked questions about the club?” Maverick asked.

“What the hell is this?” Bolt looked from Maverick to Venom, and it pissed him off that his own mother had to be witness to this. “Is this really necessary?”

“Answer the question,” Maverick said.

“No, okay. I know the drill. I don’t talk to fucking strangers about my business. For fuck’s sake, I didn’t even talk to Morwenna about club shit, and she was at the center of it. Are we done now? I’ve spent the last year attempting to win my wife back, while also the truth of the fact I fucked up and have three kids with another woman came out. As you can see, I’ve been a little busy to play traitor to the fucking club.”

He didn’t want to talk about all his fucking failings. Not with Venom watching and probably laughing his dick off. What didn’t help was the fact Star was trying to lure him to her bedroom. She didn’t have any time for their three kids, but she wanted to go and play with him, and that just got on his nerves.

She was too needy and constantly trying to get him to fuck her. It didn’t help that the last time they were together, she asked him if they were going to make it official, if they were going to get married, and that scared the ever-living fuck out of him, there was no way he wanted to make anything official with Star. She’d been a good fuck, and at first he wanted her to get rid of the kids, but then he changed his mind, and it was all a fucking mess.

“Do you want to tell me what Gus was doing here?” Bolt asked, looking toward his dad.

“What do you know about Gus?”

“Have I woken up in some kind of nightmare where no one knows who they are, or what they do? Dad, come on, you know who Gus is. He’s Morwenna’s dad. My father-in-law, who would very happily see me dead.” He rubbed his temples. This was starting to make him agitated.

“What was he like when you were younger?” Venom asked.

“Why are you asking me these questions?” He got that Venom was good at what he did, but he didn’t like him. Sure, in a shootout, he would have the guy’s back, but he didn’t like how he’d weaseled his way into Morwenna’s life.
