“None of us want to hurt her,” Storm said. “I was against this.”
“Have you heard of the Karamazov?” Maverick asked.
Gus paused and then there was a brief nod of his head. Venom stayed at his position via the door.
“Is there any way you can figure out if there was a survivor from an attack?” Maverick asked.
“What does this have to do with me?” Gus asked.
“Cut the crap, Gus. You and I both know you’re not some ex-military man who does security detail. You’ve got too much training, and you know way too much shit. You’re the ones that warned me about the cops looking at Morwenna and Bolt’s home a few years ago. You’re the one that has given me hints and little tidbits over the years, to steer clear of certain areas. I’m not an idiot, but I figured you would tell me anything I needed to know.”
Venom looked at Gus. The man carried himself like a soldier. But there was certainly more to him. He’d always been one step ahead of the game with everything.
“I am ex-military,” Gus said. “That is all you need to know.”
“Keep your secrets, I don’t give a fuck. Do you know anything about Karamazov, more specifically, if there has ever been a survivor of an attack?” Maverick asked.
Gus looked at him. There was a long silence.
“Yes,” Gus said. “I know the name, and I know the person who has survived an attack. Actually, I would say there are two people that survived an attack. Possibly a third, if you consider whether a pregnancy is one or two people.”
Venom looked at Gus.
“Who is it?”
There was another long silence.
“You’re looking at him,” Gus said, and Maverick’s mouth literally dropped open. “The other survivor being Willow, my wife, and my daughter, Morwenna, but she doesn’t know anything about it.”
Venom was not expecting that.
“Are you even ex-military?” Maverick asked.
“Yes, but my name has changed. I’m not going to tell you anything of my previous life, nor my wife’s identity either. Everything about us is the same, and the least amount of people who know about this, the better.”
“Morwenna doesn’t know?” Venom asked.
“She has absolutely no idea, and I intend to keep it that way. There is no connection to the Karamazov. Other than her current relationship with Bolt, and of course you,” Gus said, turning to look at him.
“Wait?” Storm asked. “What?”
“Venom and Morwenna were having sex, until Venom broke her heart in order to keep her safe.”
Maverick and Storm looked confused.
“And you’ve not killed him?” Storm asked.
“He is doing everything to protect my daughter. Your son had his fun, and didn’t want to let my daughter go. This is in no way the same.”
Maverick held his hand up, with the other folded across his front. “Enough, we don’t need to deal with this right now. That’s a matter for another time. Karamazov is real, and we are in danger.”
“They’re the worst kind of evil. They make you guys look like child’s play, and you never know they’re coming. They find a weakness and they exploit it. It’s been the same for the last twenty-six years.”
“Twenty-six years?” Storm asked.
“They take what they want,” Gus said. “I don’t know why total annihilation occurs but it does. They don’t leave any survivors.”
“You survived.”
