He made his way toward them. “Maverick, can I have a word?” he asked.

“Sure, whatever you have to say can be said here,” he said. “There’s nothing secret right now.”

Venom glanced at Bolt, as he pushed his child in front of him. Morwenna, the little girl, was sliding down the slide, and he had the little child attached to his front.

“There has to be someone alive,” Venom said. “About Karamazov.”

Maverick sighed. “There’s no one.”

“Think about it, you arrive at a place of carnage and death, and no one is around to take the blame, then it becomes meaningless. Who is there to point the finger, to say exactly who it is?” Venom said. “There is no point in being anything, or creating this fear, without someone to show it.”

Maverick frowned.

“Come on, have you ever thought that it was just fun to make shit up?” Bolt asked. “Kind of like that Whispers game, when you start at the very beginning with a statement, and as you go down, it changes based on what was heard and all that shit?”

“This is not a game of Whispers. This is real life, with real victims here. This matters,” Venom said.

“You’re trying to find a solution and reasoning where there aren’t any. Bloodshed is not logical.”

“Bloodshed!” Kyle threw his hands in the air, screaming the word.

Bolt winced.

Venom looked toward Maverick. “You know I’m right. The only way to instill fear, is to actually have someone who is able to tell that tale.”

“Honey, you can’t be serious,” Storm said.

Maverick looked toward Venom, and they stared at one another.

“He’s right.”

“And what if this is exactly what the Karamazov do? They weaken the people they’re after, by sending them out on wild goose chases they’re not able to win?”

“It’s a risk we’re going to have to take. Do you have any idea where to start?” Maverick asked.

Chapter Fourteen

Venom waited outside of the main gate as Gus arrived. He waited for him to pull inside, then he checked for any signs of being watched, and there were none. Once he was sure they were in the clear, he closed and locked the gate.

“Do you want to tell me what I’m doing here?”

“We need your help,” Venom said.

“You know you’ve hurt her,” Gus said.

Venom stared at him.

“I figured something was happening between the two of you, and I thought it would be sex. I didn’t think it would be this.” He shook his head.

“The threat to her life is real. If I make it out alive, I will make it up to her, I promise, but right now, we’ve got to make it safe for her.”

Gus looked like he wanted to hurt him, rather than help him. Venom waited, as he knew Gus didn’t owe them anything. They were the ones that needed Gus’s help, which is why he also asked him to bring his computer.

They walked into the clubhouse, and most of the room went quiet. The club was not aware of what he and Maverick hoped to find. There was no point in getting the club’s hopes up.

They stepped inside Maverick’s office where Storm and Maverick were waiting. Venom closed the door.

“Do you want to tell me why I’m here?” Gus asked. “If this is any way to hurt my daughter, you can absolutely forget it.”
